  • Robbery!

One of our techs was asked to come in today on his day off, and for his trouble, his car was broken into.

Someone jammed a screwdriver between the driver's window and the surrounding trim and pulled *SHATTER!*. Took his GPS and left an unholy mess of glass particles.

Probably not nearly as funny as it should be, my old 2IC took her car stereo cover OFF whenever she came into work due to the fact that her car stereo was once ripped out.

My friend takes her GPS with her whenever she goes into work. I'll be doing the same once I get my provisional licence.

My Kia is somewhat lucky-the immobilizer will stop anyone from driving off with it, and the accessories it does have aren't flashy. I have a CD Player, that's it. I'm getting a car charger for my iPod tho.

Ouch, hope it didn't do a lot of damage to the window trim & door. That's what could be most expensive to fix.

Ow, I hope the insurance covered it. May I suggest a smartphone? You can get a full-blown Android 2.1 device for a hundred or so, and have a GPS you're supposed to take with you, because it's a phone. Or something. All I know is I love my Droid.

Speaking of... I don't know how I haven't been broken into yet. I have a dock for my phone that looks suspiciously like a GPS dock, and I have no doubt some hoodlum would see that and go for the glovebox.

                1. I had one of those detachable-face CD players installed in my old car.

Is it compatible with 4th gen iPod nano?

Also a bit but I wound up turning Irv's siggy into a t-shirt.

                    1. According to the website I provided, it should be.

                    2. Pics or it didn't happen. You don't need to be wearing the shirt.

I'll put it up soonish, but I made the t-shirt on zazzle.com.au
There's a part of the website that allows you to customise your own t-shirt, jumper, hat, bumper stickers etc.

I never leave anything in my car in plain view. If i absolutely must leave something in my car, it goes in the boot, or under a seat. Or in the glovebox, which i can lock.

The only exception is at work, as that is a very secure parking lot, and even then, i don't leave my GPS and whatnot in plain view.

Just a tip... If you use a suction cup mount for your GPS... When you take it off, you should also wipe the spit ring off the inside of the windscreen, as thieves will see that, and then may break in to search for your GPS in the glovebox, or under a seat, etc...

If you have a removable face plate for your CD player, ALWAYS take it out and put it in the glove box or anywhere not in sight when you are parked for a long time and never ever leave a GPS unit or anything fancy out in plain sight.

My CD player is in my trunk - all you see in the car is the radio, as CD controls are integrated into it. Definitely a plus for security. And not too inconvenient, as it has a removable cartridge that holds multiple CD's, so I can have half a dozen choices from the driver's seat at any given time.

                            Madness takes it's toll....

My CD player has a removable face plate, however when i take the faceplate off, it has a little red light that flashes - indicating where the CD player is ... so i leave my faceplate on, and make sure the system is turned off, (it's not controlled by the ignition - after market installation)
