  • Where were you in the last six months?!

I got a call.. Thursday of last week. A hot wing bar wants to set up an interview. i call back, politely decline informing them that I got a job and would be starting but if anything ever happened I'd apply there first thing.

Ten minutes ago, Target calls me wanting to set up an interview ASAP Monday. Again, Sorry, I have a job now, but if anything ever happens I'll call you guys immediately! The lady laughed and wished me luck.

Where the fuck were you guys in the last six months?! If I had a car still, I'd interview for both jobs to pick up some extra work. I'm kind of wondering if I should have done it anyways, but she wanted me to interview when I was in class. I think I'll just live with my ONE job and school. I was working 100 hour weeks for months in the beginning of the year and I dont want to burn out like that again.

edit: Now I dont know if I should call the Target lady back like "Hey, you know what, set up that interview. I'd love another job, I'm not nearly busy enough." I only work 3 days a week at the library, 4 days every other week.

I wouldn't, you need to concentrate on school so that you can get your degree and one day walk into JiTB and show off how good you are.

I'm not getting a degree in this city. I wont be finished with school for at least another decade. I'll be in southern california when I get my BA at the very least. I dont need to show them shit anyways.

Okay, before you go crazy, let's look at a two week span of your life. This is a total of 24*14 = 336 hours.

You need to sleep. The accepted number is 8 hours per day, or 112 hours per 2 weeks. This reduces you to 224 hours remaining.

You have 5 credit hours in school. So, five hours sitting in a room with a prof lecturing you every week, or 10 every two. In addition, you have the out of class time, which has a commonly accepted number of 2-3 hours per classroom hour. To play it safe, I'll use 3. 3 outside hours * 5 credit hours = 15 hours/week, *2 = 30 hours. + the initial 10 = 40. You are now down to 184 hours remaining.

You have to eat. You need to allow 30 minutes for that per meal, minimum two/day. You also need to allow time to prepare the majority of your meals (since, unless you're very very wealthy, you can't afford to eat out every day). Let's assume you're very fast at it, and only need an additional 30 minutes/day to do all of the prep work. That's 21 hours devoted to eating and getting ready to eat, leaving you with 161 hours.

Your current job gets 36 hours every two weeks, leaving you with 135 hours.

I've seen posts that make me think you have an hour long commute to/from work and school each time you go. If so, 11 days every two weeks you get 2 hours additional, so another 22 hours. You're down to 113 hours remaining.

Now, add in the mundane/smaller stuff: shopping for food, going to the bathroom, showering and cleaning to get ready for work. I'm going to pull a number entirely out of my ass, and say that these times total up to another 30 hours, leaving you with 83 hours.

Schedule in some sort of "me time" to try to decompress a bit (Personally, I need a few hours/day, but I'll say a total of 2 hours/day to try to regain sanity), and there's another 28 hours. You're down to 55 hours.

You've also got meetings with your therapist and case worker. Let's say that's only four more hours out of every two weeks (assuming an hour long meeting with each one each week).

If I have the right numbers for you, you're looking at about 51 hours every two weeks to try to do a second job.

Downsides: If you do this, keep in mind that you've offered more time to the library when they need you. They wouldn't be happy to hear "Sorry, my other job that I took after I started with you has me scheduled." You'll also have to manage your commute to/from the other job. Depending on buses/bike routes/etc, you're looking at another two hours each day you work. You're going to run yourself ragged, increase your overall stress, and sooner or later one of your jobs is going to say "choose between us and them" (look around this board for any number of those stories).

Upsides: Well, what goal do you get closer to? If you're saving up for something, will you put the additional money towards that savings goal? Or will it be eaten by current living expenses changing to accommodate the new job?

Personally, I don't see much upside for you for this. It might be there, but I don't see it. I see a lot of downside, though. I have to advise against it.
