the small-town clearance swamp store I've been helping set up opened its doors to the public today.
Looked pretty damn good if I say so myself. A few small things needed to be done yet, particularly some pieces of furniture needed to be built as displays, but me and another guy banged out a lot of those today.
Lot of people in the store. Then again there were a few people getting in and trying to shop (we left the entrance doors open at all times, as this was the only way for anybody to get in the building.) As I was leaving for the day a woman commented to me "Pretty nice store, dontcha think?" I told her "I hope so; I've been helping set it up!"
One thing that I know is going to be a problem: the ad circular sent to the people in this town is the same one that goes out for all the big, full-assortment clearance swamp stores. Meaning there are several products in the circular that the small-town store will not have. It would be nice if these items had a disclaimer reading "Not available at the small-town stores" or some such, but all they do is put a note in the mouse type at the end of the circular that nobody reads anyway. I just advised people to call the store to see if they had a particular item in the future.
Grand opening is Friday. That's also my last day there. I'll miss that place, but I miss my co-workers back at the swamp, and I won't miss the driving half an hour every day down and back.
