  • Another move, promotion included.

As of Monday I take over management of the closest store to home with the chain I work for, after the former manager did a stupid.

No more dealing with the sh*t from my current SM, or dealing with the staff that follow his lead. Yay.

Almost didn't get the spot as H/O were worried what would happen if they took me out of my current store, luckily they've decided to risk it

That's something I don't understand about corporate mentality. Employee X is holding things together (i.e. doing the manager's job) at store 1 because the manager is a screw-up. Corporate doesn't want to promote employee X to manager at store 2 because if they do, things will fall apart at store 1.

    The situation is as follows:
    - Incompetent manager at store 1 (i.e. needs replacement)
    - No manager at store 2 (i.e. needs replacement)
    - Employee X on staff, who has shown themselves to be competent at handling a manager's job.

If they promote employee X to manage store 2, they need to find 2 people: a competent manager for store 1, and a peon to take over employee X's old job.

If they don't promote employee X, they risk employee X finding out about it ("WTF? I didn't get the promotion because I'm TOO good?"), and "jumping ship". If this happens, corporate needs to find 3 people: competent managers for store 1 AND store 2, and a peon to take over employee X's old job.

Clearly, corporate is better off promoting employee X than not promoting them - so why don't they do it?
Any fool can piss on the floor. It takes a talented SC to shit on the ceiling.

Luckily for me in this case, that's what they did. I've pretty much come full circle now, the store I'm taking over was the one I started at as a lab casual, since then I've worked across 11 stores in the city in pretty much ever position there is. It's nice to get some recognition.
