I am out of collections. Out, out, out!!!
I am sure that there are people that can do that job well and happily, but it turns out that I am not one of them. Especially when I would spend a portion of each day trying to figure out what the hell management was doing/thinking. My migraines and anxiety issues spun out of control to the point that one doctor flat out told me that her number one recommendation would be to quit working there.
Things came to a head one Monday when I called in (and finally got through after seven attempts! No employees have ever reported being able to call in to the call center with less than five attempts.
We started showing our call logs to the supervisor to keep the bitching to a minimum). I told them that I had a severe migraine that was causing me to be physically ill and would not be in. They insisted that I be in by lunch. Excuse me? You know that I have problems with migraines - I've given you paperwork that outlines my disability and medical conditions; do you honestly think that I am lying about this for fun? (While the intensity of the migraine did lessen, my family finally forced me to go to the hospital after I had the same one for over a week and was getting to the point that one of my eyes would not focus.) Needless to say, that was the last straw and I quit. I'm not particulary proud of it as I didn't give them notice or anything, but I just could not deal with them anymore.
A friend who is a supervisor at an inbound call center found out and asked me for a resume to give to his boss. He dropped off the resume, I got a call the next day from HR. Went in for an interview yesterday morning, received the offer letter via e-mail yesterday afternoon!
Starting next week I will be working an inbound call center and handling dispatch for repairs to our clients. No talking to anyone that wants to hide from us. Some may be upset, but I can deal with that since they are calling us because they want something from us. Plus, once the training is done I got my first preference for shift. I guess not as many people actually want the graveyard shift.
As a bonus, my friend had told me a starting salary that was less than I was making as a collector. Not a huge impediment since I was willing to take a pay cut to be more relaxed and happier. Well, when I got the offer letter they are starting me at what I was making before.
Sorry that this is all rambly, but I'm just so happy and wanted to share with people that could relate!

Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he'll eat for a lifetime. Get a man hammered on Jaegermeister at the company Christmas party and you can talk him into eating tropical fish from the reception room aquarium.
