So, I work in a call center. We have your typical supervisors, who run your numbers and you report to, and we have lead reps, who act as on the phone supervisors. When one of the supervisors left, the best of 3 leads moved into the supervisor job, and they're now hiring for the lead positiong that opened as a result. They are looking for someone to work either 4 ten hour days or 3 twelve hour days on the weekends, so the shift will either be Fri-Mon, or Sat-Mon, which isn't my ideal, but still....
When they posted the job, I thought I'd give it a day before I decided whether or not to go for it, but I had so much positive reinforcement from coworkers encouraging me to do it, I couldn't say no.
I've done a lot of work with the newest group of hires that they all seem to think of me as their backup lead at this time anyways, but its nice to know they're rooting for me.
Today, SF, one of the two remaining leads, approached me. They're trying to have each of the candidates sit and shadow with him or SK, the other lead, and since I'm on PTO/days off til next Tuesday (yay mini-vacation!!), he wanted me to chat with him today. I ended up sitting in with him for an hour, learning all the programs they use, and about the kinds of other tasks they have to do in between taking calls and such.
To me, it's a perfect fit, and I'd love the job. What has me really excited, though, are some things SF said to me. He basically told me that he'd love to have me join the team, he doesn't think I'd go on a power-trip or cause drama, like some people might, and he really thinks I have a good grasp of our policies and procedures, especially the difficult after hours type stuff, since I work 2nd shift/Sundays. The only thing that has me worried is that there are a number of well-qualified people in the running, and SF did mention that he thinks the sups will have a hard time deciding. The other thing giving me confidence, however, is that I know the two supervisors who will be making the decision both really like me and want to keep me in the call center, and both know this is a good way to do that.
I'm also excited because SF gave me a chance to address the scheduling issue--working weekends with football season coming up, and help me realize that they'd help me work around it.
So, wish me luck. I'm trying not to get too excited until they actually start moving along with the process, and I find out if I have to give a formal interview, but I am still feeling good. Even if I don't get the job, this was a huge compliment and a confidence booster. But still...it wouldn't hurt if I actually get it.
