  • Hey, My sup noticed

    Background:
One of the things that I'm supposed to do is 1) print out & distribute these monthly reports to department heads & 2) data entry on these [expletive deleted] monthly finance reports.

Most of them aren't too bad but we've had a real problem with one of the 'detached' departments. When they merged last year, they merged their accounts. No problem, makes the data update a pain but it's workable.

At the beginning of this fiscal year they separated them again. Without telling us until we noticed something was wonky at the beginning of the fiscal year. "Oh, yeah, now these 2 accounts roll up to this one that we created, not what they used to and everything else is the same." Great, thanks for letting us know after we've set up the spreadsheets for this year. *muttering expletives*

Ever since then, we've had one problem after another getting their reports to work. 3/4 of the time it's because of some keying error that has to be tracked down. I suspect that my supervisor was starting to dread hearing from me because it meant another problem to track down & solve.

This month, they went smoothly. I even called the sup to let him know this.

On one of the other accounts there was something wonky (actually on 2 but we knew the reason for the other one & it's a programming error that someone else has to solve, thankfully). So I asked my sup about it. Was this something that should be occurring or is it something that needs to be investigated. It turns out that I had noticed it & called to attention before the department head had even seen his report.

This makes the sup look good & on top of things. He, in turn, conveyed his compliments on my sharp eye. Yay! Considering how sucky time sheet stuff is going, I really needed this boost.
I'm sorry, the person to whom you were speaking has been replaced by a recording. Please leave your message at the sound of the beep.
