  • Movin' on up...

So, I've been at my new job for a little more than three months. Another pizza place, but this time the owner is actually a "working owner" who puts in more hours at the shop than anyone else. As such, I value his opinion of my work a great deal more than I would if he were an absentee owner.

In any case, I was hired in at significantly less than I had hoped to be. I understood that any raises I received would be based on how well I did on the job.

I was given a dollar per hour raise on my second day! Then, I was gradually given more important tasks at work, leading to my being the "go-to guy" whenever we had a special function to cater or a promotion that needed special attention.

My hours started off at around 25 a week, and creeped upwards until my normal schedule was a solid 30-35 weekly. When one girl quit two weeks ago, I was counted on to fill in, and put in 20 hours of overtime on the last paycheck.

I have been asked my opinion (and, in most cases, heeded) on everything to new menu items, dealing with an employee who has attendance issues, and hiring.

Today, my boss asked me how much I liked working at the shop. Upon my reply of, "A lot," he told me that it showed and that he wanted to give me another raise of $2.50 an hour...which also comes with supervisory responsibilities!

I finally have a boss who both believes in the adage, "Hard work will get you places," and shows it. Hizzah.

Thanks... I am actually kind of excited also about the timing of when I was hired, as the boss is thinking about opening up a second store soon. If things keep up as they have been, I would be the one to run one of them.

He wants to turn his single shop (which is ridiculously busy, considering that he has NEVER advertised-not ONCE) into a chain. I not only believe in his dream...I have full faith in it. I (only half-jokingly) tell him that I'm putting him on the "50 stores in 10 years plan."

Of course, that would mean I'd have to be some sort of executive, naturally.

That's very cool. It's always great to have a manager that acknowledges your good work.

Good luck with getting your own store to run!

Things are going great! Not only am I making more hourly (while still getting overtime hours), but just this past Sunday I assisted in conducting interviews and hiring some new staff to replace those who have left recently.

            Life is good.
