Well after nine years of working on and off in grocery hell, my managers at the grocery store decided they didn't want me around anymore. I let my guard down a bit and they found something to terminate me for. So I've been unemployed since July 3rd and unable to collect unemployment.
Last week, I interviewed with a company that does home care for special needs individuals. I was hired on the spot for that job. It would pay about what I was making before, which was barely if even covering my bills even considering my freeloading living arrangements.
I would have been in orientation with that company right now, but I'm not. I declined that job because later that afternoon I got a call from Horseshoe Casino. Horseshoe was calling about my application I placed for the position of Entertainment Technician. That job title basically consists of being a stagehand and equipment operator in their new Venue. Something I ordinarily am happy to do on a volunteer basis.
The HR representative who called me asked me to come in the next day for the infamous personality test on the computer. I figured that was all I'd have to do, given the time in the evening I was called to come in at. I wasn't surprised that they asked me to fill out paperwork authorizing them to check my previous employment and education. I was surprised when a recruiter spoke to me immediately after the test. I was even more surprised when she sent me over to The Venue to meet with their production manager. And I about crapped my pants when he hired me on the spot, $18/hr full time.
The job hasn't started yet, I did two hours of pre-employment paperwork yesterday and they gave us more to take home, and there's the issue of waiting for the drug test results and a badging appointment with the Indiana Gaming Commission. My first paid day will be September 15, which is the start of my five full days of orientation. The ball is rolling though, and the end is near.
