It's not full time or salary (I'm still working on finding another job as well, though I'm thinking part time now if retail) but I got a job yesterday!!!
It's coming into October and my town has a couple of companies that do Ghost Tours (cause, well, we're a pretty haunted town). So I was downtown on Tuesday with my son and walking by one of the tour stores / home bases and though "Hmmmm, they'll probably be getting busy this month -- maybe they need help in the store." So I went in to ask and happened to mention that I've been acting for a number of years, including doing haunted houses, haunted theme parks and renaissance festivals.
They took my number and before I even got home, the boss called me. I went in yesterday for an interview and he hired me, on the spot, to be a guide 4 nights a week and maybe help out in the store as well!
So, like I said, it's not full time, but I get paid pretty well for the 2 to 3 hours of work I'll do during a tour and we get tips as well. I talked to the other guides and they said they average $1 a head and the groups are generally 60 to 80 people. Not too bad. Also, we get bonuses for people we send to the tours and a small commission on any merchandise our tours buy.
I went out last night with one of the tour guides to get a feel for it. My daughter and I are going out on one of the earlier tours tonight (with a different guide) because, while there is a script, the boss pretty much says "use it as a basis and scrap it!" and everyone does it differently.
So yeah -- yay! I have a job that's going to be so much fun! I'm sure I'll have SCs and stories, but I'm excited. I just hope I can do a good job!
