So I went on my first job interview yesterday in 13 years. That's how long I've been at my current job. I wasn't looking for a new job, this is what happened:
My best friend is an office manager at a big name department store (starts with an M) and I went to see her last Sunday to bring her a textbook one of her daughters had left in my car. Since it was so close to closing, I hung out with her until she was done with her work so we could walk out together.
On our way out we run into the assistant store manager ( D ) and we all chat for a bit. As we were saying our goodbye's, D asked what I did for a living. So I told him that I was a retail manager and had been with my company for 13 years. D asked then why hadn't I applied to work there and looked at my bff. She said she thought the position he was thinking about had gone to so-and-so. He gave her one of those weird looks that read "Her? Yeah, right!". So he asked me to get him my resume. Then we left.
At first, I didn't take D seriously and thought "well, I already have a job". But the more I thought about it, the more I thought what a great opportunity this would be to do something a little different. So I applied online. Now I've never even thought about having an updated resume on hand because I've been with my company since I was 19. So my bff yelled at me a bit for not having one and then helped me put together a kick-ass resume that I extremely happy with.
D received my resume Wednesday morning and sent me an email that afternoon to set up an interview because he had a position that needed to be filled right away. The interview was yesterday. D interviewed me and of course saw how nervous I was and told me not to be. After his interview, he asked if I was willing to do a second interview right then. I said sure. So I interviewed with another assistant store manager.
After the second interview, D came back into the office and said to send him an email on Tuesday. When I got home, I checked my email and saw that D had sent me a message. It read "Cam, Good job today. I'll speak with you on Tuesday!"...
So now I'm nervous.... Thanks for letting me get all that out.
