When I got my job, in Sept of '08, I started out at the starting Retail Warehouse wage there, a dollar less than what I'm currently making. Literally a week later, I was bumped up a dollar for working with the Food&Beverage Warehouse. In April of '09, there was a renegotiation of our working employment contract with our worker's guild (not a union as we don't pay dues, but we have long-terms acting as the head contacts) in which we got something like a fifty-cent raise in some places and better benefits. At that time, I was at the same rate at which I started, as I was under the impression, as well as going by the written contract, that I was not entitled to a raise until I had been with the company for two years.

My boss pulled me aside on Saturday (July 3rd) to ask me how long I had been working there. I told him, "Two years on September 7th with F&B", and then he asked me what I was being paid. So I told him. He said "That's not right, you should be getting xx.xx like everyone else..." as he pulls out his phone and starts furiously emailing. "I'm gonna get you where you should be," he said, still typing and trying to find the sheet he needs from the fridge walls in our main room. (I thought it was kinda funny, since we have probably a hundred clips on that stretch of wall, all of them overlapping with various sheets and forms and catalogues for our units.) So hopefully, this friday I will be getting a thirty-cent increase on my paycheque and it might even be retro-active!

    Update on Friday!

    I love managers like that.

So you're saving the big happy dance for Friday, I assume?
Make a list of important things to do today.
At the top of your list, put 'eat chocolate'
Now, you'll get at least one thing done today
