  • Only a little brag.......

    ....but I'm so inordinately pleased!

Our village had its annual show at the weekend and everyone was putting in their best vegetables, flowers etc to be judged.... My mother persuaded me to put in some of my preserves for the Domestic Economy classes. I got a rake of firsts and other prizes and ended up with a cup for the biggest total number of points! Never entered anything before!

(And yes, one of my firsts was for the marmalade section - I put in a jar of my grapefruit, lemon and pineapple marmalade)
Engaged to the sweet Mytical He is my Black Dragon (and yes, a good one) strong, protective, the guardian. I am his Silver Dragon, always by his side, shining for him, cherishing him.

      Thank you!

As I said, it's only a village show (although some of the rivalry over things like the longest runner bean is unbelievable!) but I honestly didn't think I had a chance against the seasoned campaigners who compete every year. Maybe it's just beginner's luck, but I'm still absurdly pleased!

If you like to make your own preserves, I can always PM the marmalade recipe to you, if you would like?

The judges most likely loved to see someone new, and esp. someone who knows how to make good preserves. I hope you didn't get too many evil glares. This reminds me of the Walace & Gromit film about the Werebunny... the big showdown at the village fair...

Ah the memories of helping my mom to make a years worth of damson jam... we had an alotment garden (Schrebergarten is the German word) with a huge damson tree, it bore so much fruit, the neighbors happily took a share. Meh, all the stoning and stirring and cleaning the stove afterwards, but the results... now my mouth is watering.
