  • Temporary New Job

It's only for two weeks, but really really good pay. Sadly, it also means crazy hours (we are talking 80+ Each week). It is salary (ie I get paid a set amount), but I get a great reference from the owner at the end of it.

Lets just say that if I work 100 hours a week, I would still feel like I was ripping him off. It's that good of money, hehe.

I do have one big worry. It is a management style job. I've only been a supervisor, and that was a nightmare. I guess I should put some background about how I got this job.

One of my old supervisors when I was working in security from 2000-2002 (exactly 2 years) started his own Security Firm. I was the one person he knew he could count on at the time, in fact one time at 1 (or 2) am in the morning he came knocking on my door. I got dressed and went in to work because somebody hadn't shown up. (Yes he knew where I lived at the time). We had kept in touch after.

Anyhow, the person he normally trusts to over look things is going on vacation..so he had me come in once to talk to me as I was on his 'short list' of people he trusts. In the final interview he was deciding between me and his own brother..

That is why it won't become a permanent job though, he has no room on the payroll for another position once the person comes back from vacation.

Anyhow, I know a bit of accounting and know most of the other requirements..the main part will be scheduling (which I have never EVER done), and delegation .. which I stink at. If I see something done, I want to jump in and DO it, not have somebody else do it.

Neat! What an opportunity-- and how awesome is it that he trusts you that much? Good going! Just make sure to take care of yourself-- them's is long hours.

Main thing with delegation is realizing, first and foremost, that you can't do everything. Once that's out of the way, the second thing is to find the people that you trust to do things the way you'd want them done. So if Person A can do X well, but not Y, and Person B can do Y well, but not X, put them in their best spots!
