  • Hospital Job!

Well, today I was offered a job as a patient care tech at a small community hospital. This will be beneficial for when I graduate from my paramedic school and getting experience in general as a nursing student.

The shift is 3 pm to 3 am (I know, odd!) but that benefits me since I can sleep in till 1 pm. My biggest complaint about nursing clinicals is that they started at 6:30 am. I am not as happy as I would be if I could get up at like noon hence why my next clinicals are at 3 pm. It's 2 days a week with rotating weekends so that's perfect for me. I block my classes Monday and Wednesdays so pretty much I am at home by 4 am and

This is very beneficial! The pay is pretty good, the experience is worth it, some tuition reimbursement, and it's part of a large healthcare network. Meaning when I do get my RN, I may be able to have a better chance of getting hired than an outsider. I have an hour job, but I am so excited! I love my ER time for paramedic and even as a nursing student (my instructor arranged to have me in there for a day because she ran out of patients to assign).

Congrats! Good luck Are you in the ER on or a floor? I hope it's fabulous and your long days aren't too much to handle. I find that moving and staying busy keep me awake on long shifts.

I'm pretty sure you're smarter than this, but just in case: Don't be like one of my friends who had a student nurse job and decided to not show up/beg to leave early/whine about how hard the job was and how unfair it was she had to stick to a schedule pretty much every week. Funny how she was the only student at the hospital who didn't get a job there after graduation.

It's in the ER, which is why I am so excited. I know most of it may not be fun like cleaning up patients, room, stocking, getting information and charts organized (they are still on paper for the next few months).

Plus I'd welcome a consistent schedule. I used to work retail which really changed each week plus every weekend! This is rotating weekends so I am excited. They are aware 2 days a week I won't be able to work and I plan to block everything as well as I can on the same 2 days.

I did find out that they will provide me with scrubs. Slightly disappointed because I wanted to try "youtility" scrubs.

I really don't want to mess this up because almost all the hospitals are affiliated with one of two hospital systems. The hospital system is about the same size as the other one. So getting fired at one hospital eliminates half the hospitals.
