So I'm job shadowing at a rehab center. The other day, one of the COTAs (certified occupational therapy assistant) came up to us with soaked hair.
She had been with a patient in the shower room, and while transferring the patient to the shower chair the patient spasmed and she almost dropped the patient on the floor. She managed to catch them, but it was a close call.
So she got the patient situated in the chair and handed them the shower head so they could wash themselves. The patient took the shower head and acted like they were ready to begin, but then suddenly flipped the shower head around as they turned the water knob and blasted the COTA in the face with water.
She'd just got back from changing into dry clothes when she told us the story.
And that's why you don't drop patients, especially the ones who can fight back.
