Background: I have had trouble peeing for a long time. For most of the time, all I had to do was push and it would come. But since March, my urgency has increased.
I went to my doctor and got an appointment to see a specialist in November. That was in June. Now it's September and it got worse. As in, I-have-to-sleep-late-to-avoid-getting-up-to-pee worse. My latest is 4am yesterday morning, and this morning wasn't all that better.
Because I sleep late, my schedule has been pushed back. I wake at 10am, eat breakfast at noon, lunch at 4, and dinner at 9-10pm.
Yesterday, we went to a walk-in clinic only to be told that pills will not help me. Now I'm in the ER, waiting to be seen by a doctor.
Wish me luck!
UPDATE: I'm home from the ER, so I can tell you more about what I saw and what happened to me.
Once my mother and I arrived, we sat down in the waiting area. The triage nurse asked my mom to stand up since the seats were reserved for patients. I heard and saw a little girl cry the whole time, and the mother was on the phone telling loved ones that the kid had an allergic reaction.
A man came up and asked the triage nurse about the existence of a lineup. The nurse quoted where we were in the queue, and the man was frustrated because he was here before all of us. Oh well, at least he wasn't sucky about it.
When it was my turn, the nurse asked me some questions and took my health card. Then I waited again. Then she took my blood pressure and gave me back my card.
I was then directed to the Rapid Assessment Zone, known as RAZ. My mom and I followed the red dots until we got there and had to wait again in the RAZ lounge.
I was finally sent to a RAZ room, which consisted of a hospital bed and curtains, and told to undress. I stripped down to my bra, socks, jewelry, glasses and panties and put on a hospital gown. The place was so freaking cold that my mother put my jacket, sweatshirt and sweater over me while I lay there waiting for someone to come and assess me.
The emergency nurse (a different one) took my blood pressure and gave me a cup to collect a urine sample, which I gladly did after a few minutes. While I lay there, I heard another child crying and a man moaning in pain in the room next to me. I also did not have lunch, though I ate breakfast on the way to the ER.
All this time, I posted to this forum, and updated you, my boss, friends and family about my status.
After the nurse collected my urine sample, the doctor came to see me and asked us some questions about my urine problems. The nurse came again, this time to take my blood. She stuck a needle in my arm, drew the blood, and left the needle in there just in case they need to do something else to me (like IV). After that was done, I half-dressed (just put on pants, sneakers and a jacket along with my gown) and went back to the lounge to charge my iPod and wait, all while still updating you, boss, family and friends through email, Facebook and Apple Messenger. The doctor needed to get my medical records, which, unfortunately, were in a medical centre up north, near to where I used to live. My mom had to get the centre's phone number from my sister and pass that information on to this hospital.
I was STARVING by now (no lunch, remember?), so my mother left to find the vending machine. That was when the doctor came back, so I asked him to wait. When my mother came back, she brought two cookies and a Diet Coke, but it was time to hear the results. The doctor said that I need to see a gynecologist, as well as still see my urologist. So I'm waiting until October to see a doctor near to where I live now, and have her refer me to a gynecologist. I was told that I have huge fibroids and that could be why I'm having problems urinating, and that it's not an emergency. Thank goodness!
We went to Mickey D's to have lunch/dinner. I ate the two cookies, a Big Mac and an Oreo McFlurry, with water to wash it all down.
TL;DR: I have problems urinating, so went to the ER. Lay down, gave urine and blood samples, missed lunch, and was told to see a gynecologist as well as the urologist. Went to Mickey D's to eat later.
