  • And the teeth are out! (Great team at the hospital)

I have to say the hospital team were the best I ever have met through all of my medical treatment ever. Ward nurses were so nice (even though they'd been brought in to work a Saturday out of their M-F schedule), comforting and yet not allowing you to get too worried or too silly emotional. The surgeon was very clear and listening carefully including to my CFS doctors anesthesia requirements. The anesthesia team were very amusing and yet not too flippant to make you think they weren't listening - and even made sure not to leave me in any distress due to being in a wrong position or a too big needle (hate my small veins). Recovery nurses were very quick to provide water, tissues and a dish when the sinuses made me feel nauseous (no need to use it though) and even had put my glasses back on before I woke up.

They even listened with good humor when I mentioned that I had on occasion reacted badly to someone getting too near me when I'm asleep and might well lash out if I'm not fully aware and they lean over me. A few were even discussing martial arts methods and types with me whilst doing stuff with real interest.

They knew I was nervous as anything about it and rather than the other team I saw nearly 2 years ago (where I backed out because they wouldn't listen and kept telling me that I was making it all up).

So far (9 hours later) a tiny bit of jaw pain at the back and I'm down to being annoyed by the ends of the stitches because they are just long enough to "register" as something in the mouth. That may get worse tomorrow if the drugs haven't worn off yet but so far I'm very revealed its over and so happy its gone so well.

On an aside.. anyone seen the new cannulas? They apparently are for protection against any of the patients blood getting on the nurse or doctor but everyone in the unit unanimously decided they are too heavy, prone to damaging when they try to take them out and they won't use them. I was minorly worried when they started this conversation as they were starting to put one in and glad when they showed me one and said they wouldn't use it.
I am so SO glad I was not present for this. There would have been an unpleasant duct tape incident. - Joi
