I've had a few (bad teeth). They arent bad, the injection of novocaine was the worst part, and if you have had a cavity filled you can handle that. The dentist probably cant pull an infected tooth because of risk of the infection spreading. Like to your brain.

And I finally after a night of intolerable, took a vicodin that didn't touch the pain, scared my bf into considering hauling me to the er, the damn thing abscessed. I have a huge swollen bubble on my gum and it hurts to open my mouth and I'm terrified to brush that area for fear of ripping the bubble open. Thursday I called off work and went to the dentist office at opening. They said they had tried to call me Wednesday (wrong) left a message (wrong) gave me another round of amoxicillin and told me to call the root canal people. I kind of feel like it's my fault for not getting this taken care if sooner but I also feel like they should have addressed this on Monday and not sitting around doing nothing until I'm in tears at the office AGAIN. Friday at work was tolerated only because I was doing signs in the back and went home early. It was embarrassing to have my coworkers see my face all distorted and they kept trying to talk to me though it was apparent that I was in pain. I finally just pointed at my jaw and shook my head and refused to speak.

Didn't you call the root canal people, then? Your pain at the moment is much, much worse than a little root canal. Get to it Monday morning and should you get dizzy, run a fever or if the swelling gets near the eye, go to the emergency room this weekend.
People die or get disabled if the infection spread to the brain or heart. Hopefully the bubble will burst soon, that will temporarily bring the pain down, but don't put off calling the specialist (dammit ).
You will be scared before and under the procedure, but you'll see that it wasn't so bad afterwards, just wait and see.
