Apparently you can have a freckle/mole inside your eye.

I learned recently that you can also have a melanoma inside your eye. There's a woman here in Wisconsin battling that.

Yep. Apparently it's like a skin freckle/mole: it can turn cancerous, although most don't.

Hmmm. How was it found?

I don't remember much but I think it was something like she had a black spot on her field of vision. I think it was on the radio show Central Time. That's a Wisconsin public radio program.

I learned that about 10 years back, I think. I went to an eye doctor for an exam for reading glasses and he was like, "You have a nevus inside your eye." And when I was clearly baffled he was like, "A freckle!"

The only unusual thing I've previously heard of was a corneal scar. I found out in the last year I have one but thankfully it's not over my field of vision.

I have an eye freckle. They're pretty cool to look at on those fancy color map things.

Sometimes people refer to a differently colored spot on the iris as a freckle but I don't think it is really. I have one. It's pumpkin orange and it's at the north end of my left iris. I also have a dark spot on the south end of one of them. It wasn't always there so it must be the result of an injury (eye infection or some such).

When she was peering at the inside of my eyeball with one of those machines that shines a bright light into the eyeball ...

Also, they were supposed to set up an appointment with a specialist and I've heard nothing yet ... hmmm ... will give them a call back in the next day or so.

That's probably what it was.

And I now have not one but TWO appointments with two different specialists. Because the first one they called was booked up until December, so they made an appointment anyway, and then called the second one, who has an opening in August. They told me I can go to both or cancel one, if I prefer.

Happened to my dad back in the 70's, but back then they didn't have much else that could be done. He lived more than 20 years afterward with just the one eye. Had a couple of artificial ones, but after losing 'em (accidentally tossed them out, I think), he gave up on that because it was expensive to replace. Still worked, drove, etc.
