Physician prescribes a particular medication ... one caplet per week. (No, that's not a typo.) For four weeks.

But for some reason, I cannot get the entire prescription at one go -- I have to drop by the drugstore each week to get that week's caplet.

I mean, we're not talking a lovely hallucinogen that will leave me dancing with unicorns or something.

Anybody here have any idea why the doctor would set it up this way?

Ah ... sorry, I keep forgetting to clarify ... I live in Canada. Private insurance isn't involved.

Maybe the pharmacy gets paid a little more by giving them out one at a time.

I'm flattered, but it appears that it was the doctor who set it up like this ... not the decision of the pharmacy.

I'll ask them if they have any idea when I go in for my next dose.

Maybe it's just to prevent an oops by taking them too frequently? While you are a responsible human, we know all too well that there are many with less capability to follow directions, and perhaps the doctor's already had to deal with too many occurrences of "well I had all four, so I took them all to save time"

Seriously, I never thought of that. I don't know what an 'overdose' of this would produce, but ... presumably the doctor does.
