To those of you in the nursing profession I am sorry that I have this story to post.
This happened 20 years ago this past June. My second daughter Meghan died at birth due to a uterine rupture. The night after she died Hubby stayed with me and I basically cried on his shoulder all night. The second day he brought me my cassette player and my Beethoven tape so I can listen to it to calm down and possible sleep that night while he went to his Mom's to get some sleep (He could not face the nursery we had set up for her). After he left, I started the tape and made sure the music was low enough so it would not disturb anyone. The nurse I had on the afternoon shift commented on how relaxing it must be to listen to the tape and for me to get some sleep.
The shift changed and the SN (Sucky Nurse) came on. When she came in to do vitals she turned off my tape and told me that I needed to sleep, not listen to music. I explained to her that listening to the tape was relaxing and that it helped me sleep. After she left I turned it back on. She came back in an hour later and took my tape player and told me that I needed to sleep and not listen to music and left the room with it. Needless to say, instead of sleeping I ended up crying the rest of the night. My Dr was not too pleased the next day. He went out and got my player for me and wrote in my orders that they were to let me listen to it if I needed to. I never saw her again
