  • Thanks a lot

Went to a patient's home to care for a medically fragile child overnight so the mom could sleep. The next day, the agency called to tell me that the mom doesn't think I have enough experience to care for her child, even though I seem "nice and competent".

I honestly think that this is because the nurse the night before me a recently graduated RN - that had never done any trach care. Not even suctioning. So now Mom is a bit gun shy about anyone that doesn't have at least 1 year experience.

Mom is *not* the suck here - she needs to be confident in the care for respite care to do her any good. The suck is for the previous nurse that never mentioned that she didn't have the skills when she accepted the assignment. :-(

New grads should never be hired to do home health anyway. It's a job for an experienced nurse, at least 1 year Med surg (or Peds if all you're doing is Peds home health).

You have no back up in home health. You need to be confident in your skills for the sake of patient safety.
They say that God only gives us what we can handle. Apparently, God thinks I'm a bad ass.
