  • Prescription Refill Driving Me Mad!

    Just needed to vent.

Clementine takes Vyvane for ADHD. Since it's a controlled substance, we do not get X amount of refills at a time. We get a month's supply and it's on me to call in time to get another prescription.

I called a week ago today to the office of her Developmental Pediatrician (the one who prescribed the medication for her).

It's been a week. There has been no prescriptin refill sent in the mail. No one has called me to let me know if the doctor was out sick, on vacation, whatever. I'm having hubs call because I'm really preturbed right now. (Plus, I'm not feeling well, I think I might have caught daughter's strep throat, but not sure as I haven't gone to the doctor yet this morning).

This is frustrating. Does this mean I have to call 2 weeks in advance for refills?
And you're welcome (in regards to my avatar).

    I hope not. I'm sure it's just a flub.

Can you go to the office and stay until they give you one? I'm pushy enough to do that if I wasn't getting a call back or any other response.

I would, but the office I'd need to go to is North of here - as in another state. And I don't drive the interstate by myself. So I have to rely on calling. As a matter of fact, I'm going to need to call again as Husband called for me at 8:40 AM and it's 10:00 AM and I haven't heard whether or not the office closer to my house has the prescription written for me to pick up yet.

I can feel your pain. I take the same medication, but because of how I get it, I have to go see someone before I can go back to my doctor. I have 4 left and the appointment with the first person I have to see is not until Friday. Then I need to schedule with the doc. It looks like I may be off of it for up to 2 weeks. I hope for your sake and your daughters sake the rx gets there soon.

            Update

Got Clementine's prescription filled about 30 minutes.

We ended up driving to the office (at the beginning of rush hour) and sitting around for an hour (we got there around 4 PM).

I went in first and explained the situation. Receptionist (very unsympathetic even though I did tell her that I had called last Monday and last Friday and today was the last day of the bottle that I gave to my daughter). So when the hour was up, I sent Clyde in to deal with the woman and the doctor. I was that mad. (I was literally shaking with anger when I came back to the car).

I got the prescription written for this month AND one written for next month (with instructions that read Not to be filled until after January 2, 2012).

So all is good for the next 2 months. Then come around February, I'm going to have another headache.

What I don't understand is why I have to call an office (in another state!) to get a prescription from a doctor who is in an office that is 1 hour from my house. It's frustrating. I'm going to have to see if I can call the closer office & leave a message there for the doctor to give me the prescription. And believe you me, I'm going to be picking up the prescription in person next time.

You can try calling the nearest office after you call the out of state one. And say something like ' I know you like to be kept in the loop. Just letting you know I just spoke with 'name' at the 'location' office as required to request 'child''s refill of her ADHD medicine. I remember how frustrated you were last time that they neither handled it in a timely manner nor updated you on the status'.
It's unlikely she'll deny being frustrated as it makes her look good in a weird way.

Glad to hear that you got her meds taken care of. I am not looking forward to not having mine.

That's what I take too! Glad you were finally able to get more for her.
