    I got Turfed today

    The urgent care was busy, and as soon as I said my lower back was hurting (I am 99% positive I have a kidney infection) the RN immediately moved me to another section with a bed and off of her hands. Bitch. I had already waited over an hour, knew that it could easily be another hour, decided, "Fuck this noise," and left.

    They haven't called me to find out why I left. I'm going back tonight and just asking for my results and a prescription, and then I'm making a complaint about it.

    Do you know what the usual wait time is?
    I'm not familiar with the term 'urgent care', round here the main care channels are GP (doctor, make an appointment, dependant on workload and urgency, could be a few days) or A&E (dependant on your urgency and that of others, wait time is anything from a few mins to many hours.)
    Last time I needed fairly urgent attention (bad cut to my hand), I waited at A&E for at least 5 hours - many car crashes came in whilst I was waiting, and I was capable of holding enough pressure on the wound to let others go first.

      Unfortunately, it sounds like you unitentionally hit the same complaints as a drug seeker would. Leaving before released did not help that perception in the eyes of the staff, either. If you're still having issues, you need to go back and stay until your tests get back.

        Think of a pathology lab as analogous to a photo processing lab. It takes a certain amount of time to process your photos (path test); and it varies depending on the photo type (test type).

        The urgent & emergency care path lab is like a one-hour photo place. There are some things that just can't be done in their equipment, but for what can be done, they'll do it soon as reasonable.

        Until your path tests to determine infection/lack thereof came back, or you had some other clear symptoms of infection rather than 'mysterious back pain', they couldn't treat you for infection.

        Going out on a limb here, I'm going to assume (heh) that the path lab was busy, and couldn't immediately process your test. Or that your test inherently takes half an hour or more. Maybe both.

        3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.

          I didn't ask for pain meds, back pain is a common component of kidney infections. I listed off: fever, aches, chills, urination issues, swelling. She asked if my back hurt. I responded that my lower back hurt a bit. Absolutely nothing in my comments could be viewed as someone seeking drugs.

          And tests there aren't run until the doctor or PA first sees you. By moving me to another department, she delayed a doctor or PA seeing me for even longer.

            With complaints like that, I would have treated your case as a priority. Kidney infections or kidney stones are excruciatingly painful and can be very serious. I don't blame you for being upset.

            I don't know what it's like where you live, but I'm rather concerned with the ER staff where I work. Turnover has been very high, and they don't have any seasoned staff to teach the new grads they are hiring what they are doing. It's led to a lot of bad care in what used to be a very good ER.

              Ah, a different matter, then. I read your OP as if the back pain was one of your original complaints. Those complaints would certainly have had me sending you to the ER per my emergency first aid training, so I agree with Panacea that it seems a little odd that admissions passed you off like that.

                Agreed. And if tests hadn't even been taken, my hypothesis is completely off.

                  One of my buddies got turfed by a hospital ER.... his appendix burst either the next day or the day after...
