  • Nope, I don't like it! A bit tmi.

Hey all, long time no see, hope everyone is keeping well.

Anyway I've had the Mirena iud for the past 5 years and 4 weeks ago my lovely gp removed it so I could get a replacement as the time was up. Unfortunatley I can't get into see the gyno until early May so just means hubs and I have to be extra careful.

While I was using the Mirena I never got a period or if I did it was just light spotting for a day and I was loving it

Well, I got my period today for the first time in 5 years and now I remember why I didn't like it. Mind you I'm not really in too much pain just the whole being uncomfortable and ikky that I had forgotten about You know what I mean.

In better news I had corrective surgery on my lazy eye 2 months ago and it went great, the eye is perfectly straight and I'm really happy about it, though after it was done it looked like I had been punched, I tried to hide it with sunglasses but some people noticed and gave my poor hubby death glares.

LOL. How do they know it wasn't a customer? At any rate, I understand the ickiness. I won't use pads for that reason, not even at night. Only tampons for me.

I'm so glad my I changed my bc prescription from nuva ring (period once every 4 weeks) to a generic of seasonique (sp?) (period once every 13 weeks/4 periods a year).
I'm always afraid my roomie's gonna haul off and punch me in her sleep one of these days. Her best friend back home tells of her doing that to him a few times.

My gyno has told me that it's okay to stay on whichever bc I am on for three months, skip the period, just start the next week of active pills (or nuva ring, as it is now). Just to make sure I only do it for a three month stretch at a time. So, that's what I do most of the time!

Just make sure the doc writes the prescription that way, or you're going to run into a problem at your pharmacy when you get to the second refill, as the insurance is going to think it's 14 days early. (They count each pack as a 28 day supply unless specifically ordered otherwise.)

OMG I love my IUD so much. I'd already been on seasonique before I got it, so almost no period then, but the relief of not having to go "Wait, wait, did I take my pill?" Although, I did do that for a couple weeks after getting it in.

I'm on a Mirena right now as well, and its been nice not having to worry much about Mother Nature. My only complaint about it is that I'm one of the few who is reacting a bit too sensitively to the hormones it has, and its played havoc with me. ><

I was going to get a Mirena after my daughter was born, but the story from my sister about how hers came out was enough for me to change my mind. I should have gone ahead though, I have Implanon and I'm ready to cut it out myself. Once hubbys retirement paperwork comes through, I'm going to see what the military will let me do.

A friend of mine used the Implanon and she hated it. She had it in for a year and she bled the entire time, her doctor kept telling her to give it time to settle but after a year she went to him and said if he didn't remove it she would take it out herself.

Let's just say he relented pretty quick.

I understand that all too well. I have PCOS and had a lovely 5 year period vacation just because it wanted too, and it's come back this year and ooh it's annoying as all get out. Not to mention the moodiness that accompanies it. Woe be those that cross my path one week a month. LOL I'm going to try to talk to my gyno about getting on a 3 month at a time pill just to get rid of it again.

Yeah that happens a lot more than they say. My first 2 rounds with implanon were fantastic, lighter periods (no more iron tablets!) and less pain but this last implant knocked me sideways. Now my periods are 5-6 weeks off 9 days on on but it took a year of weird as bleeding to settle into my new cycle. My Doc's are not worried and neither am I but it did get annoying while I was getting used to my new cycle. It's just the side effect of long term birth control and my age. My mum had they same problem when she turned 30 so it may not entirely be the implants' fault.

Some of my friends had the bleeding problems with the shot, almost 1 in 3 had constant light bleeding, poor girls, and swore off it and went to the ring or back to the pill(s).

I wish I had an option of removing my ovaries and put them back when they are needed. I hate the hormonal fluctuations and the mess. PITA.
