  • Can you dream pain?

This is a weird one. O.o Perhaps not a physical thing.

Last night I had pain in a knee. Tightness underneath that made it painful to straighten the leg. Much owwies.

    Apparently...

I can't even remember which knee it was. They look fine, they certainly feel fine. I think I went to the loo after the owwies and I think everything was okay there. I don't have knee problems and this has never happened before. Songs be confuggled.

Ergo I think I may have dreamt it...but ow! Not pleasant, brain!

I s'pose if one's neurons are being told there's pain there, they think it hurts... Anyone else had this before? Or dreamt of medical conditions clearly that made you a little the next morning?

I don't recall ever feeling pain in my dreams, per se. I might feel certain emotions, and there's always that "falling" dream that really sucks, but I've had dreams about losing teeth, getting in a fight with someone, getting some weird deformity somewhere, but I always just see it, I never feel it.

I did once, however, have cramps behind my knee which caused considerable pain for a few minutes, and I basically had to bend my knee as tight as possible. It's possible you had some kind of a cramp and were sort of half-asleep at the time.

This is why we should all have Inception-esque totems with us at all times.

I clearly remember once, when I was a child, I had a dream that a squirrel, or some other small animal, bit me. In the dream I looked down at my foot, saw the animal open its mouth, saw it chomp on my heel, and felt pain.

I always wondered about that. I mean, if I'd dreamed that I felt pain then looked down and saw an animal biting me, I'd assume that I had a pain and my brain worked it into my dream. But I saw the bite coming before the pain. I don't understand how my brain did that.

        Dreams are weird.

I can feel pain in my dreams. Sometimes I wonder if it's related to actual pain I'm having and my dreams form around it. I remember when I was 6 years old I dreamed I was shot in the stomach and it HURT! From the time I was a teenager, every time I had stomach cramps I would dream I was in labor. Never fails. I've never even been pregnant, so it's rather bizarre.

I don't remember any dreams of mine that involved pain.

I do remember waking up and getting a cramp in my calf that makes the slightest movement HOLY SHIT MAKE IT STOOOOOP.

I have felt pain and pleasure in my dreams. I may just be really weird. I also know when I am dreaming sometimes and try to wake up so I can actually go back to sleep and actually get useful sleep. Always wake up pissed off when i do that. My brain will also write new episodes of TV shows that I hear when I am sleeping. That is really annoying

I have had some really fun dreams and some quite terrible ones with all of the sensations that 'belonged' to them, so I find it plausible that you dreamt the pain.

I have dreamt pain [I have certainly never been shot by a gun in my waking life]

I can walk and run in my dreams.

I have dreamed of pain but it's usually because I got into a funky position while I was sleeping (I toss and turn a lot) and when I woke up, the pain was still there because my leg was bent oddly or something.

Nocturnal leg cramps. I hate those. You have to flex your foot and slowly straighten your leg to make them go away. Sometimes the leg is still sore for a few days.

Believe me, I know how much they hurt. I usually try to massage the cramped muscle, which usually helps me straighten my leg out enough to stumble to the bathroom in the morning.

                          Nocturnal leg cramps.
I sleep bacwards! (with my feet towards the headboard, so I can straighten my leg against it. If I've had an attack or am expecting one, I'll make sure I'm already at the "bottom" of the bed.)

What I hate are the cramps between my ribs.

Worst one of those I had started in the calf. When I went to stand, my shin cramped too. It was all I could do to get to where I could put weight on it. Ugh.

I've never dreamt pain, but I'm certain it's possible. The brain is a funny thing.
