Hello kids!
I have a story that thankfully I wasnt involved in, simply a witness to said events.
It was a busy weekend night and a 24-ish yr old guy comes in via ambulance to the ER. My friend, B* another RN, goes and takes report from the ambulance crew and gets the kid settled and comes back out and tells me this guys complaint: He was trying to quit smoking cigarettes and was having bad cravings so he drank a bottle of wine and smoked some weed and now he felt funny.....so he called the ambulance.
Almost immediately after, I can hear him screaming for pain killers, for anxiety meds for anything thats going to help him. Hes also screaming that he hasnt pooped in 3 days and his belly hurts. B* goes back into the room and talks to him a little, gets him to calm down and says the doctor has to come see him before he can get any medications and etc.
She comes back out and charts, meanwhile the Dr. M walks up to B* and asks whats up with the patient. She fills him in and Dr. M enters the room. Dr. M comes out a few minutes later and starts to put in orders....just basic stuff - motrin for pain, some blood tests etc. Nothing drastic, nothing narcotic.
B*enters the room with the motrin and kid goes ballistic. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOURE NOT STARTING AN IV AND GIVING ME DILAUDID (dilaudid is a very strong pain killer, some people like it and seemingly come back for just that)!!?!?!?" I can hear B* explaining that narcotics would make him further constipated etc and hes still not having it. So, B* exits and Dr. M comes walking up again, having heard him hollering and goes back into the room. Dr. M basically tells him that he needs to stop being a baby and that hes not allowed to talk to the staff that way. He also says hes not getting any medications until some tests hes ordered shows there's something wrong and if not hes going home with a prescription for extra strength motrin. Dr. M leaves and a few minutes later the patient comes to the door and nicely calls for B*.
B* goes in and and comes back out a minute later. Apparently, according to the patient, the Doctors speech was so stern it caused him to shit himself and spill his urinal, he also requested that B* clean him up. B* handed him some wet wipes, towels and a gown and made her way back out, telling him to call her when he was done. B* heads over to Dr. M to let him know he literally caused someone to shit their pants.
About 10 minutes later, the patient makes his way out and starts talking to B* while standing at the desk, while wearing the same pants he had just shat in. Dr. M was making his way towards us again and the patient loses it.
Patient - "HOW DARE YOU NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME, iM IN PAIN AND YOU WANT TO GIVE ME BULLSHIT MOTRIN! I CAME HERE FOR HELP AND YOU HAVENT DONE ANYTHING FOR ME!.
Dr. M - "Well, I cured your constipation didnt i? *I had to turn, I almost laughed out loud*
Patient: HOW DARE YOU?! IM CALLING MY LAWYER, YOURE GOING TO REGRET THIS.
Dr. M: Look, theres nothing wrong with you. Go home and sleep it off youre going to be fine. Im going to work on your discharge papers, call and get yourself a ride home.
Patient: YOURE A DOCTOR! DONT YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR JOB IS? YOURE SUPPOSED TO HAVE COMPASSION. I BET YOURE NOT EVEN JEWISH! I HATE YOU.
Dr. M - Ill go work on your discharge papers. *walks away"
Patient goes back into his room and B* follows to help him work the phone and gather his belongings. Patient comes out and sits next to me, in B*s chair.....in his damn shitty pants. "Im not going anywhere". and folds his arms.
It was at this point that I excused myself from being right next to him, because I was having a hard time holding in my laughter. I stand a short way away next to another RN and I see B*s look of despair at having seen this guy sitting in her nice chair. I see that B* cant convince this guy to leave as hes been officially discharged and hes absolutely refusing to talk to anyone else but B* (I did make my way back over and attempt to reason, but he wasnt having it). Security gets called and a few minutes later security comes and when the kid refuses to get up and leave of his own will, hes physically removed and being "assisted" down the hallway. As hes leaving, hes sees Dr. M and yells "PRICKKKKKKkkkkkkk". Dr. M's response: Toodles!!!
