  • So, I ended up in the hospital last night...

I started having chest pains, and they radiated into my jaw. It went on for a few minutes, and then went away. Then it came back...

So, I asked my hubby to take me to the hospital because I thought I "Might" be having a heart attack.

Got to the emergency room, and man, they had 5 people on me right away, putting in IV's, taking blood, getting an ekg, and doing all sorts of other stuff.

They determined that it was probably not a heart problem, but wanted to keep me anyway to make sure. Then they did a CAT scan to make sure it wasn't a blood clot...

Long story short, I did NOT have a heart attack. In fact, my heart is fine. What I DID have was a muscular strain due to the displaced vertebra in my neck, which are held together by a titanium rod. My neck was hurting yesterday, and doc thinks that the muscle pain was due to that.

Scariest night of my life...but it all turned out okay!

Yay for being okay. How are they going to treat the strain?

That is scary. I get chest pain from my spine, and it scares me sometimes. Are you on anti-inflammatories?

Yeah - any of the 'might be a heart attack' symptoms mean 'call an ambulance'. My husband and I have been scolded for that.

Other MOD was recently in the ER for heart attack symptoms. Turned out to just be a pinched nerve. She actually waited several hours to finish her shift before driving herself to the ER... it turned out not to be that serious, but I could still beat her for it!

Glad to hear everything turned out well for you!

Yeah, it was scary and my husband was really scared..they put me on a new muscle relaxer and an anti-inflammatory so it's helping, but now that I know what it is, the scary goes away, lol.

It is just a lesson to be learned..if you have chest pain, go check it out. Also, hospitals do NOT let you rest..I was having vitals taken every hour

This is similar to what happened to my Dad last week. While he and Mom were in OBX (Outer Banks, NC), he suffered a detached retina. He didn't know that's what it was, just that his vision was a little messed up. He didn't mention it for A DAY, and then finally told Mom on Friday, and called a doctor. After talking to him, they called me, I drove down to OBX to help pack up their stuff while Mom took Dad to the hospital. They sent him via ambulance to Norfolk, VA to see an ophthalmologist, and he came back up with Mom from Norfolk on Saturday (they determined it WAS a detached retina, but not serious enough to keep him there any longer) and had surgery back here in the DC Metropolitan Area on Sunday. It's looking like Dad will recover fine.

Mamo, Dad's mother, was raised as a Christian Scientist, and the going joke in our family was that she thought aspirin cured all ills, and when my Uncle's foot was cut by a lawnmower blade (so deep it knicked the bone), she told him to take two aspirin and put his foot up. (Fortunately, Grandpa came home and immediately took him to the hospital.) It's in Dad's nature to not talk about things until they get serious.

Mom and I both gave him a talking-to, as we don't want him not telling us about serious medical issues like this.
