We held our Skills Fair for my nursing students today; they had to show continuing competency on their basic skills; they must pass this test to graduate.

One of the skills is Blood Transfusion. They have to prepare and administer a simulated blood transfusion (we have fake blood bags and blood tubing and everything). I have written physician orders, blood consent forms, and transfusion paperwork to make it all seem real.

    Patient name: Mina Harker.

Some of these girls are all big into Twilight, and the whole vampire thing. And no one, NO ONE has ever gotten the joke.
They say that God only gives us what we can handle. Apparently, God thinks I'm a bad ass.

Of course, not. Vampires are cute, cuddly, and sparkly and just want to live in peace.

    Nose for who too?

Aww, poor old lady out of touch with today's youth. The love Mina had for the Count was nothing, nothing I tell you!!!, to what uhm, that girl, whatshername, the emotionless wonder, ah yes! Bella, has for Jacob. Or is it Edward this week? It doesn't matter. You're still out of touch.

Side topic: There's a really cool review someone wrote about the whole series and the complete lack of description of the heroine. The writer calls her "Pants", because all the EMO girls reading it can put themselves into her place like slipping into a pair of pants. Hilarious read.

Maybe someone would get it if I had him do that.

I weep for today's youth. I say if no one can figure out the patient's name, then they fail!

Of course that would never happen, but you'd think if they at least were into vampires, they'd have watched the movie too. Still wished they'd cast someone else other than Keanu Reeves and Winona Rider for the Harkers though.

Me: Okay..so I think I get why Zoro wears a bandana
                DDD: Cuz it's cool

So, by using the Doctor's reasoning, bow ties, fezzes and bandanas are cool.

They don't actually care about the whole mythology of vampires is why. A lot of them have no idea who Lestat de Lioncourt (who would chew up and spit out the Twilight bunch) is either.

I recognised the name immediately, but my mind went 'isn't it Harper?' But 'Mina' is a pretty unique name.

... and you're kidding me, Pagan?

These kids wouldn't recognise LESTAT? Or Louis?

Dammit, 'Interview with the Vampire' is the first serious vampire-sympathetic novel out there.

... well, for certain values of 'serious'.

I remember all the vampire die-hards ... ahem ... complaining about how IWTV 'softened' Vampire mythology.

Now it's just .. facepalm. And whimpering.

                        Ah Louis. Still whining?

I had posted this in sightings a long time ago but I came across some girls who thought that the book Dracula was a rip off of Twilight.

I think I remember reading about that; my personal 'favorite' was some Twitard who I believe posted online that the remake of The Wolfman was awful because "Twilight invented werewolves and werewolves aren't anything like that, how dare you". I think she actually sent her letter to the studio...

seriously? Then they obviously didn't read it. I knew the reference right away, I read Dracula not that long ago. Right now I'm reading a vampire novel written by a friend, she's getting it ready for publication.

Just for the record I did read the Twilight series and I do enjoy them. I also like Tru Blood and the books that show is based on....the Sookie Stackhouse series.

I love vampire anything. But today's kids need a clue.
