So, you may or may not know that Kheldarson and I are expecting right now.

Well, we just spent four hours at the hospital this morning.

Kheldarson works overnights and noticed she was bleeding as she finished up her shift. She got me up and we drove to the hospital. After various tests and a lot of waiting, we were told she had a partial abruption of the placenta. It wasn't severe enough to distress the baby, but it's still a major complication and could worsen, though the hope is it will heal by itself. So she's on a few days of strict bed rest and another examination tomorrow.

I hope it heals up by itself. Sending best wishes for a quick recovery and for the rest of the pregnancy to be very boring.

If it looks dangerous at all the docs will put her on bed rest possibly until the birth. On the bright side, our friend's wife had very complicated pregnancies, and was on bed rest for all 9 months every time, and they have three healthy children.

Try not to worry too much and I hope it all works out!

Sending prayers and good thoughts your way! Hope everything turns out alright! And I wouldn't worry too much, my mom had similar problems when she was pregnant with me and everything turned out just fine!

                Update.

Past couple days haven't been fun (about 5 hours each day in the hospital), and my manager has been an utter dick about it, but it is neither miscarriage nor a placenta abruption. We're not totally sure why the bleeding started, but it's pretty much stopped, and the baby seems to be safe. However, Kheldarson is still being put on two weeks bed rest.

Thanks for all the care and concern.

Best wishes to you both! Glad you're keeping an eye on it. Your OB will want to see you guys fairly often to keep a check on the baby, which is a good thing.

                      Thanks everyone.

Currently up because baby/stomach/something decided that laying down sucked and food was awesome.

But applesauce and back to bed as soon as I stop trying to throw up.

The guys at the hospital have been awesome, even with my sleep dep grumpiness (I work nights now and all of the hospital stuff keeps occurring in the middle of my new sleep period >.<)

I suffered hyperemesis gravidarum all 3 times, once for 3 months, once for 5 and change, and once for 7 months.

I swear by ginger, the BRAT diet and antiemetic suppositories.

[It got bad enough that one morning I took my breakfast plate into the bathroom when Mom gave it to me, scraped the contents into the toilet and flushed. I decided to eliminate the middleman. I was bad enough that I needed the suppositories because I would vomit the antiemetic pills back up. Pregnancy and I did not agree.]

LOL I had my inner girly bits dealt with extreme prejudice a couple years ago, so it wll NOT be a problem again. [I had a small oops happen 10 years after I had the old style loop and rubber band tubal ligation and ended up with pregnancy #3. I joke tha tif I were indian #1 would be named Rubber broke, #2 would be Rubber Broke, Ortho-Novum Failed and #3 would be You Have Got To Be Sh*tting Me!. ]

Really though, it is true what women say about reproductive issues - if it were men that had to deal with the icky bits of pregnancy, they would have found a way to turn off the menses and cramps until you want to pop out a kid, then it would get turned off until they were ready for the next one, or until they invented an external artificial womb so they wouldn't have to go through it to get a kid. [I will point out that I am personally in favor of adoption if your female attributes are troublesome. Remove the offending organs and look for an adoptable kid.]
