  • Apparently One does not delay the bus for any question

During the weekend I went to an Anime convention. Usually I get a ride from my mom as every May long weekend the city completely closes the downtown c-train core, making it either taking a series of shuttle buses or one long bus ride (1 and a half hours). My mom was out of town the who weekend so we stuck with the buses.

The night before I had looked up the bus route that we were planning to take, though I was pretty tired at that point so in the morning I realized I wasn't sure if we needed to take the 72 or 73 (Both are the same route they just go in opposite directions. Since they go all over the city, one might end up taking longer then the other to get to you destination).

I realized that I couldn't remember when we had already walked the four blocks to the bus stop and since we just wanted to get there (Me and my Girlfriend) we decided that we'd ask the bus driver, which bus would take us to the university faster. This was after seeing that the one Bus that we could have taken had just passed and it would have been a half an hour wait for the next one (Which the differences between the routes was a half an hour)

When the bus arrived shortly after, I asked the bus driver the question and quickly discussed with my Girlfriend if we should take this bus or not. We decided to take the bus and used the method's of payment that we already had ready before we sat down.

Then a guy decided he wanted to tell me what he thought about it.

    Me: I think that's Obvious
    LA: Loud Asshat
    RG: Random Guy

Me: *sits down with my girlfriend, our backs to the male in question*
LA: You know, You should have delayed your bus with your stupid question and then got on the bus anyways.
    Me: ...
LA: Now because of you, I'm probably going to miss my bus so I'm going to say rude and nasty shit to you until I get off (Yes He did say this)
Me: If you want to be an Asshole, that's your business *still looking forward*
LA: *get's more confrontational* I Have To Deal With Stupid People All Day And Now You And Your Stupid Purple Haired Bitch Are Going To Make Me Miss My Bus!
Me: If You want to be an Asshole, that's your choice.
    LA: I'm Not Stupid!
Me: Ah, Ah, Ah! Don't put words in my mouth, I never called you stupid, I called you an asshole, big difference. *watching the bus driver who's now watching LA*
LA Stands up at this point and I tense a bit as since I was not looking back, I couldn't tell what me might do.
    RG: Hey! Be more Respectful!
LA: RESPECTFUL! I Don't Have To Be Respectful! These Stupid Bitches Are Going To Make Me Miss My Bus!

LA and RG go back and forth a bit (LA taking time to say rude crap to me and my GF in between) before LA agrees to take it off the bus if they get off at the same stop, which I think they did. I was very glad for the Random Guy's interference as I think LA was just looking for a fight and for someone to take things out on, and with me never looking at him (as I didn't want to face him in-case he took it as I wanted to fight with him.) I was slowly getting worried he might physically harm me in some way.

I don't think He missed his bus either, and the most we delayed the bus was a minute and a half to two minutes. I've seen people hold up the bus for Ten minutes as they are waiting for someone to get to the bus stop. And My Girlfriend has seen someone delay the bus but asking which bus takes them somewhere before pulling out a map and getting the driver to show them where the bus route is in the map and where they will be getting off. Hell we've both seen the bus driver themselves delaying the bus for a long while (and not at a Designated Rest Point) to catch up with a friend outside the bus or get food from a convenience store or fast food place.

I'm just glad I had a much thicker skin then when I was in High School or he would have make me cry. Also he only had four bus stops to go and we were only stuck behind one red light and that was just before his stop.

And the bus driver didn't throw asshat off the bus? Wow, just wow. I know I would have if it were me.

I think she was waiting until he actually threw a punch to be honest. If it had gone on longer she might have thrown him off but I can't be sure >.<

I remember an awesome bus driver here at home- some college girl got on the bus with her cell phone, sat down behind the driver and proceeded to continue her loud and sweary conversation. The driver told her to cool it with the swears or he would kick her off. She held off for a little while, but started back up again. And that's when the driver kicked her off. I told him that if she complained, I would happily be a witness in his favor.

Reading your original post I do believe we're in the same city. People like that are the exact reason I don't take the bus/train unless it's unavoidable.

I don't see how you could have delayed the bus any longer than 30 seconds.

I was on the bus recently where a young woman got on with a toddler. She waited until the bus had come to a complete stop before she even started unbuckling her son from his stroller. First she walked her son up the bus' steps. Then she walked back to the sidewalk to fold up the stroller, carry it onto the bus, and slide it under the handicap seats. Then she sat her son in a seat. Then she stood at the front of the bus and counted coins from the bottom of her purse to pay the $1.50 bus fare.

All of this nonsense took less than 3 minutes.

Seems to me like LA was just looking for a fight, for whatever messed up reason.

I've seen a few bus drivers take action against someone disturbing everyone on the bus but it depends on the level of patience on the driver's part as well if they have the balls (for a lack of a better term) to kick them off as sometimes the disruptive individual will try to take it out on the bus driver.

I've actually have great times on the bus/train before but due to the long weekend all the jerks were out. On the Friday (when We could still get to the core), The C-train was packed to the gills and getting off was a chore, with people shoving you back because they either wanted to go first or they though that you shoved then when in reality it was everyone moving and trying to either get off the bus or get on the bus. The people trying to get on the bus really annoyed me, especially when we were trying to get out and they could see without a shadow of a doubt that people were trying to leave the sardine can.

If I had a choice I would have gotten a ride but alas my mom was out of town and I have no one else available to give me and my gf a ride.

I agree, though if that had happened, with how LA was acting, it would have blown his mind that anyone would dare hold the bus longer then we did Though being prepared before the bus stops is always a good thing, and is something I do my very very very best to do.

Some people just want someone to fight with, no matter what stupid little reason they start the fight over. In all honesty if he didn't want to arrive late for work maybe he should try to take an earlier bus if possible. If not then deal with the fact that the Transit system is in no way perfect and sometimes your going to be later then you'd hope you would be.

Not buses, but here's a classic short film about how trains can be delayed.
