  • Baskin Robbins 31 cent scoop stories?

Yesterday, the Baskin Robbins stores in my home city of Toronto held a promotion to help Sick Kids (aka The Hospital for Sick Children). The promotion was this: 31 cents per scoop of ice cream/frozen yogurt/sherbert! Limit three scoops per person!

So I went to the one at the Eaton Centre and noticed a long line! There were even rope markers telling us how to line up. One sign asked the people making regular purchases to line up at one place, and the second sign asked the people like me to line up elsewhere.

I noticed people with two scoops (even three), piled one on top of the other. I made the practical choice of having my two scoops in a cup.

The reason why I'm posting this in Sightings? Since the promotion ran from 12pm to 5pm yesterday, I was wondering if you who were there had seen any SCs come up and complain about the closing, or ask to have the ice cream at that price anyway. Also, did you have any customers come back and complain that their ice cream melted or fell off from the cone? Or if they tried to have four or more scoops and had hissy fits when told about the limit? Or had seen someone hold up the line while trying to decide what flavors to have?

Does my age show if I reminisce about Thrifty's nickle-a-scoop ice cream? That was only in the early 70's, not really THAT long ago...

This is bringing back flashbacks of the times that I worked during the Ben and Jerry's Free Cone Day.

It is amazing how much people will whine and bitch over something they get for free.

Ugh, just had a flashback of when I used to work at Laura Secord. We have ice cream as well and I was serving some customers and was kinda busy at the chocolate counter when this old woman comes back with her ice cream claiming that it had fallen out onto the floor. Now I pack a cone hard enough so as to not break it but enough so the ice cream stays put. She had also apparently picked it back up and put it back into the cone, which made it all the weirder, cuz it didn't look like it had fallen on the floor. She got fed up of waiting for me to finish with my customers and I was still trying to process her story when she decided to dump the ice cream, cone and all on my counter, ice cream first, and walk away. I looked at it and murmured "well that was mature".

And how is it your fault that she apparently can't handle an ice cream cone??

About 20 years ago, the Purdy's Chocolates in my mall had ice cream bars that they'd dip in fresh chocolate then roll in crushed nuts - they were FANTASTIC. Once a year they'd have a 50 cent deal. I miss them so much!

My office is attached to the Eaton Centre and I got an email notice about the deal. I avoided going downstairs completely!

One of the other main reasons I don't ever set foot in there except to get into the subway! It's insane with sucky customers during the summer. I'd get a hand cramp typing out all the sightings from July to September.

Also one of the reasons the mall owners give office residents a bbq in the fall and 2 other breakfast events throughout the year in the 2 towers attached!
No... Just No! And I mean it this time!

I think it was just for Toronto anyway. I signed up for Club 31, so I got wind of it through email.

YES! Mine, too! Two scoops Rocky Road, with a scoop of chocolate in between.

Sadly the BR here in my town closed up about 3 or 4 years ago. The franchise owners were getting up in years and their children did not want/were not given the business when Mom and Dad retired.
