  • Self-Sighting? (Bugs+motorcycles)

So I was on my way home from work. Just to let y'all know, I have a bug. As in a VW Bug. As in, "I really hope this isn't the best of German engineering" type of car. It has some... issues. Right now I'm dealing with random loss of power steering, and power brakes. I like to keep a buffer zone going on. All of this is relevant, I promise.
But anyway, I need to pass this truck before I get close enough to count as tailgating. So I check my mirror, and signal I'm getting in the other lane. I have enough room to get in the lane, even if you account for different speeds and whatnot. (I hate it when someone gets in the left lane in front of you, even though you were obviously going to need to do some serious braking if they did.) I get over and I go to pass the truck. I'm passing it but not very fast because there's a car in the fast lane ahead of me who is slightly slower than me, when some idiot on a motorcycle cuts me off. Meaning he saw me get over to pass the truck, and did some serious speeding up so that he could pass me on the right, and he needed to fit through a space barely big enough for his motorcycle, cutting my buffer zone by ALL OF IT.
So we both had to slam on our brakes. Him, because he's an idiot and he didn't want to splat into the car in front of me, and me because I hate killing people. I give a little beep on my cute little adorable baby horn that I'm pretty sure was designed to make people laugh at you, just to say "Dude, don't do that. German Engineering sucks and doesn't even come with working cup-holders. IT WILL KILL YOU DEAD."
He turned around and started screaming at me. I was pretty confused, since I wasn't even that upset (since it was probably the only traffic scenario where I would inflict more damage on the other driver than he would on me, and the only one where I wasn't practically guaranteed death). Did I break some sort of traffic code? Are you not allowed to honk at motorcycles? I also know honking is somewhat frowned upon where I live right now. If you are a decent person, you don't generally honk. It's considered rude, I guess. Where I used to live, though, it was pretty common to see someone run a red light, blaring the horn at everyone who had the right of way. That was how you solved everything. People honked when they were angry in a drive-thru. Am I really that terrible of a person?

That's when you get the truck to honk his horn too. And maybe a passing train if you're lucky.

How can you identify a dumb motorcyclist?

      They're on the Bug's teeth.

        I'm a motorcyclist.

The guy who cut you off is a dingbat. Temporary Citizen. Donorcyclist. Freakin' lucky you slowed up in time to not have a new hood ornament...

The guy is apparently just one step of stupidity away from making Darwin very, very happy.

The guy on the motorcycle was in the wrong, got "caught" and decided to take the path of, "If I yell loud enough, I won't be in the wrong anymore." The idiot is just lucky that he didn't wind up like the one I witnessed.. in the back of a construction utility truck that had it's bed full of scrap metal.
If I make no sense, I apologize. I'm constantly interrupted by an actual toddler.

I have yet to figure out the mentality of "I'm on two wheels and more nimble... that makes me a GOD!!^@%@!!" on some of these folks. Yes, the first two points are true. I've never seen the last point made valid . Plenty of evidence to contrary.

I was once returning my bro-in-laws truck traveling I95 in Virginia. I was cruising along in the left lane with traffic ahead and behind me. Two guys on sport bikes blew past me, then proceeded to slow up until they were a few car lengths ahead. Sport bike idiot the first decided to impress sport bike idiot the second by pulling a wheelie at speed. The thought going through my head was "Well, at least he won't damage anything on the truck if he bites it".

I was super impressed with the motorcyclist I saw the other day, tooling down the street with no shirt on.

No leather jacket or vest either. Naked from the waist up. God, that would've been messy if he had an accident.

My guess is it is a new beetle not a bug.

                    I'd hazard it's a new bug, not a 60's or 70's model .

Yeah, it's a new beetle. I've heard that the 1999-2001 year models are the worst in terms of electrical issues. I didn't have too many issues until one day I turned off the car, and pulled the key out of the ignition and it turned back on. I stuck the keys back in and it turned off. At any rate, this guy really threw me for a loop because he's the only person who actually started screaming at me. For some reason, people see the bug and immediately assume 1.) I can't drive, and 2.) I'm going slow when neither of those things are true. At one point I was sitting in a traffic jam, and the tractor trailer stuck behind me cut off the people in the other lane, passed me and cut me off while half of him was still behind me. I also have problems with blood sugar, so when things like this happen, I have to eat something. I usually have something in the car, but it's not always within reach. I also tend to be more sympathetic to other drivers just because I know how it feels when people are mean and that when another driver is nice to you out of the blue, it makes up for all the other drivers for a while.

Believe me, us real motorcyclists hate the crotch rocketeers just as much as you car drivers do.

I have a 2004 bug. I love mine and its a turbo. I hate the cup holders though. Who the hell sticks them halfway under the dashboard?

I have looked at the 2013 and I want it. They actually fixed some of the issues from previous models. The cup holders are in the proper place and the seats are easier to move too.

The trunk is still small but they actually made the back seats split instead of you having to fold the whole thing down.

Ok now I need to save some money.
