My gmail is great at weeding out scam email (my Hotmail is another story), but the big problem is my gmail puts all forwarded messages in my spam, no matter if they are from a known contact or anyone. I'm not sure why it does that, but it does mean I have to check my spam at least hourly because at least half my work emails are from coworkers forwarding other emails to me asking: can you do something with this?

The funny thing is, they are no longer claiming to be from Africa princes, (when I said "Nigerian scams" I meant the 419 scams that used to come from there and now come from all over) now the ones I get are claiming to be from the U.S., have very American sounding names and claim they are trying to reimburse me for the millions of dollars I lost in scams. I got one claiming that she has cancer and wants to give me all her savings, but mostly they're from the "US Embassy" or US "Scam Reimbursement Dept". I just shake my head. They sound soooo fake it's funny.
Oh, they do still send the "Nigerian prince" variant of the 419 scam from time to time--I've seen some relatively recently--but the one I got that prompted me to edit my last post, the one that scored 69.5 when "spam" is 5.0, claimed to be from the US Ambassador to Nigeria.

I suspect that a lot of these spammers are counting on the way that some email clients interpret the From: address--instead of displaying it the way it appears in the headers (e.g., "BPFH" <bpfh@example.com>), they'd just display "BPFH". Which makes it harder to discover that apparently the US Ambassador to Nigeria is mailing you from gmail.com, instead of state.gov...

NC: It may be doing this if there are multiple addresses in the to/cc/bcc fields. It should be possible to set up a filter in gmail to reroute these emails, though.

My dad got a SPAM phone call..."This is the IRS *wife* needs to call as back as soon as possible..." etc. Yeah how about no. Neither was born yesterday and my dad is a computer geek and my retired mother is a total gamer chick (PS4, Xbox). I get a kick out watching her shoot fake people, especially if she sneezes and shoots them on accident!

. As I had gotten a newer car last fall, the latest spam I've been getting are those for checking your credit score. Just last night, one made it to my inbox, then when I checked my junk folder, there were 7 more of the same message. The one that didn't make that folder got marked as spam, and the contents of that folder were deleted.
old school spam here I guess.

I was trying to buy a car about 8-9 months ago and was going to finance it. I had filled out the application but circumstances and the down payment the finance companies wanted killed that idea off.

Now up until this time I have received very very very few credit card offers via snail mail. Starting about a month after I did the loan application I now get at least ONE CC offer in the mail per day.

Too bad there is NOT a "junk/spam" folder for old school snail mail.
I'm lost without a paddle and headed up SH*T creek.

RM - There is, actually ^_^ For credit cards, anyway. You can block snailmail solicitation for five years online, or request a paper form to kill it (at a given address) for good. I've been on it for years, and it does work! The link came courtesy of the FTC site.

Me, too. And it usually seems to be from male enhancement products. You'd think that myself would know that I'm female. I guess I'm just going to have a long talk with myself one of these days.

The spam I get in my yahoo! Account goes through phases. I used to get a lot of mails from 'Adriana' going on and on about her webcam, then loans and e-cigarettes. In the last couple of weeks it's all about Hearing Loss.
