  • Enterprising Subway employee (or not)

I was reading some threads on here when out of the blue I remembered something that happened to me a few years ago back before I knew these forums existed. My mom and I were visiting my brother and his wife in Montreal, and in the evening we decided to get some fast food. My brother and his wife are into asian food, and decided to pick up Japanese (or something similar). My mom and I decided to get Subway and we planned on us all eating together after picking up our meals. My mom and I went into Subway, and I don't remember if it was already full or just filled up pretty quickly, but there ended up being about 20 customers in the place waiting for their subs. The Subway guy, seeing all these customers, came up with a brilliant enterprising method of making the subs. (insert sarcasm) What he did was make every sub at the same time. He asked around the room what bread we wanted and what length. He then took out 20 rolls and cut them accordingly. He then added the meat and cheese to each sandwich one at a time. He then asked each person what toppings they wanted (this was the longest part). On the whole, the whole procedure took about 45 minutes to an hour, believe it or not. He was pretty slow on top of everything. Have you ever waited an hour for a sub? I understand that with a crowd there will be wait, but is it better for everyone to wait rather than just some wait? It might have been a better idea if there was someone else but it was just him. When we finally got out of there, my brother and sister in law were done eating and waiting to find out what took so long. My brother said he wished he'd been there so he could have kicked the guy's butt.

Being that someone who used to work at Subway, and being that's the WORST PLACE (next to WalMart) to work, I can actually see his method and reasoning behind what he did. But if he didn't have the fast pace to do so, I can see where you got upset. It's a bunch of crap that most Subways leave you on your own, at a BUSY location, to fend on your own. I had that issue too... I'm glad I quit that sh**hole

Our burger joint gets busy, and my boss has had a "now hiring" sign in the window for three weeks and we've only got three applicants, all of whom suck. You'd think what with all the unemployment in this city we'd get more applicants. Anyway, so we're understaffed. Boss-man says it's okay to turn away customers if you're too backed up, he says I should concentrate on filling the orders I've got instead of spending time taking new ones.
You're not doing me a favor by eating here. I'm doing you a favor by feeding you.

It happened to long ago to remember exactly, but I don't think he was doing it on purpose. Or maybe he was. I'm surprised no one spoke up, or walked out, they mostly just looked annoyed and muttered among themselves. My mom and I were hungry, or we would have left. That makes sense to turn away customers, or at least say that the store is very busy and it will be a long wait, and let them decide.

I once was in a fast food restaurant when I was seeing an es of mine. We had to wait for about 30 minutes for our food. Not many people were in there with us, just another family. The family was being an SC about everything, making him change every order of theirs about 5 times. Of course the employee was the only one working, and the manager was no where in sight. We were traveling that night, and decided to just stay there and eat. We got our food for free for that wait.

Seems to me the law of First Come First Served should have applied here. That's why you get in line...

I think it was more a case of he was trying to make sure everyone got their orders and no one got left out. I spose he was just trying desperatly to do the right thing and not cause issues which would have resulted in more time being wasted. Prob didn't help that he was slow either, maybe he was new?

I know in a job I was in AGES ago (I got fired after a month but thats a story for another time) I had been working there about a week and they left me alone durin lunch period (very busy) and some girl came in and wanted a presnt rapped, I didn't know how to do it properly (I'm crap) and freaked, took me 30 min to work it outm mean while the line was getting longer. If I was more experienced I would have know to have just said no, they will have to wait till the rapper comes back, but I didn't know. So yeah, meh, you didn't act like an SC so alll is good

Totally OT, but you might want to put up an ad at your local EDD office. Every time my office puts an ad up, we get inundated with emailed and faxed resumes.
