Got another one today when Roomie and I were having lunch at McDonald's. You apparently can't even be INSIDE a freaking place of business and be left alone. We said "sorry no" and he just kept pushing for us to buy him lunch. I once again had to threaten to use pepper spray to get the guy to back off, even a "we said NO, now go away" didn't work.

As we finished our lunch we heard a totally different guy walking out the door muttering (ok more like LOUDLY complaining) about how they have no right to threaten to call the cops on him.

I think I'm just going to avoid the 16th street mall for a while. All I want is to do whatever I came to do in peace. I do not need or want to be accosted by people making demands for things they don't intend to pay for. I work at a hotel. I get that enough at work.
    I
I try to avoid the 16th st mall and that McDonald's as much as possible.

I tend to avoid any McDonald's, so avoiding the one at 16th St is no problem.

It seems like some of us live in the same general area.

You would be correct. I know it's come up that Wishful and I are from the same area.

Yep same city. The place we're talking about is downtown where transients tend to gather. I haven't had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Hero in person, though we work in the same industry and sometimes cross post on threads about what is going on in our fine city. Wasn't aware that No Coupons 4 U was in my area though.

I used to live and work in the B city that had that big flood until my apartment and job got destroyed so I moved to another B city south of the flodded city.

I assume that was a few years ago when all the rivers were having a field day? Sorry you got caught up in that, we had an evac kit packed and ready but we didn't end up needing it. For all my griping I do like living in Denver, good public transit and plenty to do.

also live in the centennial state. Though not in Denver, I know and recognize a lot of the areas you post about.

You assume correctly. Both the house turned into 4 apartments and my office building were washed away.

Yea Colorado! For all our weirdness this is home and I do love living here. I'd like to move back north to Fort C someday, though. It's where I grew up. I was born there, I want to die there.

To quote one of my favorite shows, it's more my style to use a devastating quip rather than a right hook. But I can and will defend myself if needed. I've used my pepper spray before, it's one of the best methods. Where I live it's not legally considered a weapon, you don't have to get as close, and used correctly you don't do any serious damage while still incapacitating an attacker and giving yourself enough time to get away.

You mentioned in your original post that the guy panhandling is deaf. The sign in ASL for no is really easy. Take the index and middle fingers of your hand and close them down on your thumb with all digits staying straight. Almost like a pretend claw. Do that with emphasis and often times it will make them go away.

Be careful what you wish for. I got a new job it is at the end of the 16th St mall diagonal from McDonald's. So if I am bored at work I can always look out the window and watch the homeless. I always said that I avoid the 16th st mall now I work there.

I may just have to stop in and say hi. Small world huh?
