This amuses me greatly. I had to stop by one of our stores in another mall to pick up something for a customer. I arrive, and our regional mgr and the store mgr are there. Regional comes up to me and says, "Oh my gosh, you just missed it." Missed what? Well, apparently this guy and 2 of his friends stopped to get his ears pierced (No, we are not Claires, the Icing, etc.). As the guy was sitting in the piercing chair, his two friends are standing outside the kiosk. My regional is at the other end of the store, the manager is doing the piercing. Suddenly, six armed police officers come up to the store, throw handcuffs on the two friends, and start yelling at the guy in the piercing chair to "stay were he is". One of the cops even pulled his gun It seems that these three were just in Nordstrom's and made a purchase using a stolen credit card, and they tracked them down to our store. Oddly, the guy paid cash for his ear piercing.

They would have gotten away with it if they hadn't stopped to get their ears pierced!

Thus the hidden point of getting away with something is revealed: Be calm, act normal, and get clear as soon as you're done.

Good thing most crooks are just dumbasses who don't think these things through.

I think there's some statistic showing that the smarter a person is the less likely they are to have a commit a crime, since they're more aware of everything that could go wrong... and more likely to get away with it if they do, for exactly the same reason.
