I really don't like the local DMV for my area, the wait time in line is a good half hour or so then waiting to get to the counter can take upwards of a couple of hours. That is if I can get a parking spot, as it's usually jammed-packed even before the damn building opens. I think it has something to do with the fact that the next DMV is about two or three hours away.

If they suspended your license, how did they expect that you could get to the "special DMV" that's a 20 minute drive away? Are you supposed to magically know that you'll need a ride to that place and bring a friend? And what would have happened if you had driven yourself and got pulled over during that 20 minute drive (hopefully not)? That's just messed up!
The local borough where I paid my parking tickets told me about the suspension and that I had to go to <20 minutes away> DMV to get unsuspended. So it was on me to find someone to drive me down there.
I drove there myself anyway with no issues, but I keep an FOP card in my wallet for just such an occasion. Because a few years ago I did the same thing but I DID get pulled over driving down there. Cop let me go but took the FOP card I had at the time.

A couple of years ago I had to get my license renewed, normally there is a least an hour or two wait at the DMV that I normally go to. I ended up going right when the opened on black Friday. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. Very unusual, but will try this next time I need to get it renewed and see if it works the same way in a different year.
