  • Sucky phone rep

I guess as this didn't happen to me it belongs in here kinda.

My 26 year old brother is in the process of moving out of home and is setting up all the things that come with that. The other day, there was a phone call from some company - not sure who they were - looking for my brother, who was out. My mum took the call and I listened in.

This is the convo I heard from my mums side, and what she said the rep had said to her.

M: My mummy who is way too polite and patient for her own good.
    SPR: Sucky Phone Rep

SPR: Hi this is <company>. Can I speak to <Linda's brother> please?
M: I'm afraid he's not at home at the moment. He's at work.
SPR: Well, do you know what time he'll be back in?
    M: No, I'm sorry I don't.
SPR: Do you know where he is?
    M: He's at work.
    SPR: And where is work?
    M: I don't know. He's a builder and is on site.
SPR: So when will he be back?
    M: I really don't know
SPR: You have no idea at all?
M: No, I'm sorry. He's at work and I'm not sure what time he's finishing tonight.
SPR: So you have no idea
M: No. Can I take a number for him to call you back?
SPR: No, you can't. I need to speak to him now. When will he be back?
    M: I'm sorry, I really don't know
SPR: Well, you're not a very good mother then are you?
    M: Excuse me?
SPR: I said, you're not a very good mother if you don't know where your own son is nd what time he'll be back!
M: My son is an adult and is entitled to...
SPR: Are you a retard? You are a bad mother if you don't keep track of your own son!
M: Did you just call me a retard?
<at this point, my other brother, my husband and I were trying to wrestle the phone off her to basically be SCs or hang up>
SPR: I believe I did. So are you going to tell me where he is or when he'll be home or are you really a retard?
M: My son is an adult, this is none of my business and I am ending this conversation now.

    She hung up.

The rep phoned back a further 3 times in the next half hour, each time my other brother answered that we didn't know when he'd be home and hung straight up. Mum was very upset, but won't complain about the rep even though I think she should.

I had received a phone call just like that once. It was for my father. Him and my mother both were out shopping. When I mentioned that he was not home at that time, and if I could take a message. That was when the person on the phone, started in with me, telling me that I was lying to them, and that I better get him on the phone or they will have me arrested. I told them to F*ck off, and not to call again. My father came home right after that, told them what happened, and they called again. My father picked up, and ripped them a new one for that.

    Sorry for the hijack

Your mom should complain to the higher up about that.

Oooh.. I would so be filing all sorts of complaints.

You've got at least one complaint per call, I'd think.

Wow...just wow. If your mom doesn't want to call, couldn't you just call instead?
Really, that rep needs to be fired, that was completely inexcusible.
Man, I really can't wrap my head around such stunning ignorance. Shoot, I want to call and complain and it's not even my mom!
