I find that silly, because most women I know are around my height range, (5'2 to 5'6). I rarely see any very tall women.
Global average for women is 5'3", I believe. That means that 5'8" on a woman is like a guy who's 6'4"-ish. Same deal, a woman 4'7" is no worse than a guy being 5'2".

    Princess:

Feel free to smack me upside my head if this is out of line but, since you mentioned the term dwarf, I wanted to ask if you were (Pseudo)Achondroplasic or just petite?

I'm just petite. Although my doctors are currently debating over whether it's because of my disorder or whether it's genetics. My grandmother on my dad's side was about an inch taller than me. Which is weird because my dad is 6'1".

However, if you go to Garfield's restaurants, they give everyone crayons, because the tablecloth is paper that you draw on. Even adults get crayons.

Macaroni Grill does that too...and all the colors have Italian-food-inspired names (I guess Crayola does custom wrappers for them)...the server has to learn to write their name upside down on the tablecloth. And if you want to do the build-your-own pasta dish, you get an order form with all the options and you check off what you want with the crayons...I'm not crazy about their food but it's fun to eat there, and in the bathrooms they have how-to-learn-Italian CDs playing so you can learn a few words while you pee

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I stopped at the liquor store on the way to my friend's party last night and didn't get carded...the guy didn't even blink...not sure how I feel...sigh..
Think of it this way: The guy behind the counter is a jerk that isn't doing his job right and doesn't card anyone.

I learned long ago that using gender-specific pronouns just leads to hurt feelings and suckyness. I have never had anyone complain, in the decade+ that I dealt with people, that I didn't call them sir or mam. I have, however, had people get on my case for using the wrong one in the year or so before I dropped them altogether.

I know two mams who used to be sirs and still look and sound like they are, and I've known a number of either side who sound like they're the other. And I've run into an awful lot of women and some men who like to have their hair and clothes done in as gender-ambiguous a manner as possible just to cause confusion. Goths tend to do this a lot.

I once had to call the doctors for my mom, a few years back. Now with me, I have a deep voice, when you hear me on the phone. Now, when after I had called them, they said "To have a good day, madam". I told them that I was a guy, and I thought you could tell, since I have a deep voice over the phone.

Most people, when they realize I'm older than I look, they always go, "Well, at least you won't have a hard time trying to look younger in the future." or they'll say, "You'll enjoy the attention later on. Trust me on this one." I'd enjoy it more if waitresses would stop giving me crayons everytime I go out to eat.
If it makes you feel better, my favorite restaurant always leaves me a cup of crayons to color on the kraft paper table mat I'm 31, I'm 5'7", and about 280lbs..... But then, I'd be upset if they didn't...

It happened again! The waiter called me "young man" at Outback! You see this color? That's right, it's Pink! Pink! Pink! Pink!

I hate to tell you this, Princess, but I've run into a lot of guys who are into the color pink in the last couple years.

And this is outside the gay-boys and club-crawlers.

Yes, but lots of guys wear pink. I have a pink polo shirt. I've even seen older guys wearing pink shirts.

If it's any consolation, I've been called "ma'am" numerous times when I let my hair grow a little too long.

I think your only options here are to grow your hair out, or wear shirts with 'I'm a girl, stupid' printed on them. The stupids will get the clue (hopefully) and everyone else will get a laugh.

I like to wear my hair short. It's easier to take care of this way. Besides, if I let it grow out, it'll get all poofy and turn into an afro like my dad used to have when he was a kid. My hair's real thick and wavy. Both my mom and sister agree long hair doesn't work for me. But I might just try the shirt thing. Assuming I can find shirts that say that.

If you can't find a shirt, get a big button. The fact that you have it will alert some and be cause to embarrass the ones who don't spot it.

I wonder if you could do up your hair in some sort of not-quite-as-short do that would still be lazy-easy to deal with and will look good and also more feminine. I have no suggestions, however, because my hair is long, straight, and boring.

Remember androgynous Pat from Saturday Night Live? That's how I'm built (and how I tend to dress) except that I have looooong hair...till next week.

I made it through the back surgery last month without getting it cut, but I just don't see how I'll be able to take care of it after shoulder surgery next Wednesday.

Guess I need to go buy some dresses...
