  • Turn off your light then!

This happened a while back and I just now thought to post about it. I admit, I might have been a bit sucky on my part, too.

I was in Sunflower Market, ready to pay and noticed that one register had it's light on and nobody in line, yay! I get over there and I notice that the clerk is counting some money. I figured it was for a drop, so I sit my stuff down and wait for her to finish. She gives me a dirty look and says she's not open. I said, "Oh, I thought you were, the lights on." She just shrugs and keeps counting her money. Fine, whatever, pick my stuff up and go over the register next to her. Not 5 seconds after I get there and have set my stuff down, again, she then turns around and says she can check me out! I just told her, nevermind, I'll just stay here (the person in front of me was almost done). I mention the new clerk that I thought the light on meant "open". Well, this little charmer turns around and says, "The manager's right over there if you want to talk to her." The manager hears her and comes over. Now, I need to point out, I'm in Sunflower all the time. That particular manager knows me on sight. So I tell her I don't normally complain about things (I even defended a couple of the clerks to some dickhead from New Yawk), but I thought this was jerky on the clerks part. The manager apologized and even made some comment about me being particularly non-complaining when most other people would have. Of course, now whenever I go in there, I make sure not to go to that one clerks line.

I see nothing sucky about what you did. If she wasn't ready to take customers her light should have been off. These lights have 3 settings normally. Off = closed. On = open. Blinking = Assistance needed.

I would have done the same thing
This isn't an office. It's Hell with fluorescent lighting.

It's cashiers like her that give retail workers bad reps. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr to her.

Good for you AND the manager.

OOooh... the ones that are being sucky and point out the manager really get me steamed.

They practically guarantee I'm going to complain.

I think the one who pointed out the manager in the op was the second cashier who was not sucky.

I'm thinking maybe the second cashier knew the first was being sucky and wanted the OP to complain to the manager. Seriously, there really wasn't anything else she could do, anyway, beyond apologizing for her coworker (which she shouldn't really have to do, imo) and getting you rung up quickly. The manager is the one to be speaking to about it...
