I can't remember the last time I've seen an ID checked for an R-rated movie--but man are they strict at most of the theatres around here about giving a student discount if you happen to forget your ID. Mind you, I've been graduated from college for 2 years, and I still have a valid ID (can't find it at the moment), so I tend to think it's a little silly.

I think you and your friends were the sucky ones here. had you just gone home and gotten ID, you could have avoided doing something illegal. Sure, the manager was cool with it, but that doesn't justify it. You could have avoided the whole mess by just playing by the rules.

JMO but I think the cashiers extreme attitude was sucky to the extreme. The OP shouldn't have done what they did but the cashier's attitude was way over the top. And it seems from the manager that their theatre doesn't strictly enforce the ID checks anyway since he never tossed them out.

          Anywho..lesson learned. Theater workers...forgive me?
Since most of the other posts have covered my fellings on this issue I will be the first official movie theatre worker to forgive . Things like that are our pet peeves, but if I'm reading correctly it seemed the cashier had an attitude from the get go instead of calmly stating the policy.

And the manager in my opinion was sucky too. Yes, he should have backed up the cashier. I remember when I was but a wee cashier and the manager would overrule me on a policy in front of a guest. When I do make exceptions to a policy* I make sure to explain to the staff member it's a one time deal and they did the right thing. But, he also should not have said anything about being short staffed and knowing she had an attitude problem as of late. Especially to a patron. Taking off manager hat now.

*Not the R-rated policy though. We sometimes get hit by "checkers" and when we fail at that corporate can be cold and unforgiving.

I disagree 110%. The OP tried to put one over on the theater not once, not twice, but three times, and then went to the manager after failing all three times.

And then the manager acts like a spineless puss and gives in. What do you think everybody witnessing the whole thing will try to do if they happen to forget their IDs?

I do not fault the girl one bit for copping an attitude, though I personally would call the manager in right away so he can hear my side of the story and not just the customer's. That said, I will forgive the OP for admitting he screwed up and promising not to do it again.

The suck was entirely on your side in this one.
I agree 100%. That kind of behavior from customers/patrons/whatever is why Customers SUCK! exists.

                Miss Attitude coming through *update*

Well it has definitely been a learning experience folks lol

Tonight I went back to the movies to see a film with the parents who were going to meet me there (two movies within a couple days...it's a record for me). I arrived early and stood in line to buy the ticket. I saw the same lady working the ticket window. She spots me like a deer in headlights. She didn't seem too pleased to see me there ...though now understandably.

She was actually rather calm when I got to her. I told her the movie and showtime, and she processed the transaction silently...not wanting to deal with me more than she had to. I took my ticket, thanked her, and was about to walk off when I stopped myself. The only customer behind me was now being dealt with by another ticket agent, so I didn't mind the conversation.

Me: Hey. I know you recognize me from the other night...I just wanna apologize. I didn't recognize how irritating I must have been.
Her: Oh..umm...wow...it's cool. I just hate dealing with the same nonsense time and time again. I know I wasn't too pleasant to begin with either.
Me: I understand. We didn't get you in trouble with the manager, did we?
Her: No...he's a laid-back guy (I'm thinking: obviously). Nothing will happen.
                Me: Okay..that's good.

By now, customers were forming in line again, so I apologized again and left the queue. She seemed really shocked, which made me

Edit: For the record, we saw Mr. Brooks. I'd recommend that one also.

Well, yeah. How often do customers apologize? It's a rare thing, and does shock people. My wife had the same thing happen to her when she was younger and returned a comic book to a c-store that she had accidentally walked off with after reading ("walked off with" being having left the store, and returning the next day. And yes, it was an accident.)

Anyway... thank you for apologizing, and not getting too upset when a lot of us here jumped on you. It makes the world an easier place to live in.

I think a good deed like apologizing erases an SC deed any day....

It makes you a very cool customer that you apologuised, it takes a big person to admit they were wrong. Very cool.

I love happy endings. You are a very cool customer to apologize and she was a very cool employee to admit to not being very pleasant.

I agree, the apology was awesome and I'm glad you took the constructive criticism as it was intended, and not as an insult You rock!
