I'm actually hoping for the star trek voice activated ones. Somehow I get the feeling that if the telepathic elevator tried to read my mind the elevator would either wind up cowering in the basement or we would wind up going sideways.

they do not try to actually read your mind (that would be too dangerous) they can just see a little way into the future so they know where you want them to be before you do.

When I was working at the County, the elevators in the courthouse had attendents that would do all the "work" of pushing the floor button for you. It wouldn't be so bad, except these were small elevators, that would normally only hold 3 or 4 people total. So you've got one attendent sitting on a stool taking up 25% of the space already, and only room for two more people to comfortably stand.
