And yet many American jobs go overseas because labor forces there are cheaper.

That is what happened to the furniture company I used to work at. My great grandfather, grandfather, an uncle, my dad and myself had worked there. But back to the topic. I don't care for racists. I do not care which Country, my vehicles come from. If it does me good, then what is the problem.

      Lol.
In Tennessee, you can't tell who's racist and who's not.
Everyone uses the word "nigger" when referring to a black person (Not to their face, of course).
My uncle said his friends went to see The Monkees once, and Jimi Hendrix opened for them. His friends came back and told him "Yeah, The Monkees were alright, but this nigger that opened up for them was insane, man! He lit his guitar on fire and played it!"

Changes in language work against older people too. My grandfather used to call black people "colored", because that was the proper term when he grew up (he was born in 1912). Of course talking about "colored folk" now would get you some sideways looks, but he really wasn't racist.

However he did have the same feelings toward Japanese people as others have referred to above. He used to refer to Hondas and Toyotas as "gookmobiles". I actually think part of that comes from how they were demonized as part of the WWII propaganda. When you have Warner Brothers making cartoons called "Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips", you're going to have some people growing up with certain ideas of asians.

Many Japanese cars are built on lines right next to their American equivalents. And Ford used to have most of the parts for their vehicles made in Europe.

My MIL, who is Jewish, told me one day that she would never own a German car after what the Nazis had done. I pointed out that Mercedes-Benz was around long before the Nazis, Porsches came after, and most of the components in her Lincoln were made in Germany.

Porsche-designed cars were around long before WWII--the Lohner-Porsche, which used electric hub motors was around in 1898! BTW, Germans contributed a great deal to the automotive world--the first successful internal combustion engine, not to mention the first successful car, along with several of its parts (spark plugs, the clutch, gear shift, and other things we have now), were both built by Karl Benz in 1886. I bet she'd have a fit over that

I'm too lazy to do the research, but I believe several Japanese car companies are 100% made in the US. They still hold to the higher QC standards that Japanese companies tend to have, but they're made by American union workers.

If I remember that far back correctly, when my father bought his 1996 Dodge Ram, he was flat out told by the dealer that 80% of his truck was made in Mexico. Not much more than some basic assembly happened in the US.

I've heard you can get arrested for so much doing the Nazi salute in Germany.

Neither would my neighbor who was devout.

Interesting tidbit: Some auction houses refuse to take Nazi relics for moral reasons. My family owns a Nazi Lutwaffe dagger that we're still trying to get rid of (The thing gives us the creeps to be honest.) I was told by the auctioneer that the guy who bought Hitler's Mercedes ($300,000 from what I was told) blew it up as soon as he bought it.

Once upon a time black folk used terms like "National Association for the Advancement of Colored People" and "American Negro College Fund". Now, they assume you're racist if you happen to use those terms.

                        Go figure.

I remember reading that certain games, like Wolfenstein are banned in Germany for the simple reason that the games have Nazis and Nazi symbols in them, even though you're fighting against the Nazis.

Once when I was a smartass whipersnapper (oh wait, that's still me...), I gave my mother the Hitler salute after she went on a rant about God knows what.....

I'm lucky arm is still in its socket....

Every time my mom bitches at me for not enrolling in college, I always tell her I'll be right on it the second that they set up the United Caucasion College Fund or the United European Descendent Fund.........since I'm not Native American enough to qualify for money from the government or college for being part Native.

I will say it's kind of sad that people who aren't Native American "enough" aren't welcome in the Native American community. Mostly just thrown aside or shunned for being part white as well. It's sad.

I was raised in Tennessee and must disagree. Not everyone uses that word in Tennessee. That may have been the case back in the 1960's but I just came from Tennessee last week and never heard anyone refer to blacks as "niggers". If they did, then I'm afraid that they wouldn't live long in certain neighborhoods.
