I used to regularly read a webcomic(name withheld) which was about an assasin that has long drawn out gun battles with hyper violent results.

It was gritty, dark, but extremely well drawn(one of the few webcomics where guns are properly drawn). However, recently, one of their latest pages involves a rather convoluted backstory where it flashes back to an orphanage where girls are raised to become assasins and are raped (graphically on the page, not just implied, not even a silhoette, it was just there, front page) to become emotionless.

I'm not a reader of that comic anymore because of that page. There's a fundamental difference between hyper violent fantasy gun battles and graphic rape, and while one is suitable to read by nearly everyone that's a teen and up, the other certainly isn't.

My Looney Tunes fandom requires me to comment on a few things:

In the 90s, when (by way of corporate merger orgies) Turner ended up in control of the Warner Brothers cartoon library, they edited out any racial stereotypes that were accepted in the 30's or 40's when the cartoons were originally released. There was a recurring gag where a character would have something explode in their face and end up looking like they were wearing Al Jolson style blackface. It wasn't even just black stereotypes either. They removed Native American ones too, and even decided Speedy Gonzales was offensive to Mexicans (ironic since he actually was popular there). Networks like ABC and Nickelodeon would edit any gunplay or scenes where a character would pull the "now I've seen everything" gag and attempt to shoot themselves. Some networks edited cartoons for time but not content.

Now, thanks to more corporate orgies, the Warner Brothers library is no longer subject to the Turner ax, and they have so far released 4 volumes (16 DVDs total) of Looney Tunes released in their original uncut glories. And yes, HillBilly Hare is on one of those sets.

Must go to nearest video store, WB store, anywhere that sells videos. Must get Looney Tune unedited volumes. Must enjoy constant craziness of Bugs Bunny.

Out of curiosity, Cinema Guy, what exactly constitutes a 'video nasty?' (I have a feeling I own a lot of them...Robocop, Re-Animator, Night of the Living Dead, Exorcist, A Clockwork Orange, etc.) Does banning these movies where you are mean they're completely unavailable (except for discreet online purchases), or are available only from the back rooms in your video stores (like renting pornos)?
You've read the wikipedia article, so you know what they were. This was the 80s so we were talking about video rental, before tape became available to buy in high street shops. You certainly couldn't buy them online - since there was no internet. I imagine there was an underground trade in them, but it would have been done by mail order with blurry photocopied text catalogues (much like the underground trade in Doctor Who tapes I used a few years later on).

Excorcist was one. It was unavailable on video from the mid 80's to 1999. Driller Killer was another famous one.

A Clockwork Orange was unavailable both cinematically and on video because of threats made to Stanley Kubrik and his family over the film. It wasn't until after Kubrik died that it was released. (Although I did see it on video at college).

I have a story related to that. From Chesterfield, surprise surprise.
I was busy sorting the action movies one day, sitting on the rolling chair, as I was in the later parts of the alphabet, and thus, in the movies right near the floor. I had a straight line of sight through the shelves to the adult movies.
I suddenly hear, from a pair of girls walking into the store: "*gasp!* They have hentai!" followed shortly by: "*gasp!* They have Yaoi!"
I looked through the shelves at these two girls, and say, "How old are you girls?"
They look around quickly, more than a little confused by the lack of a source for my voice, as I was well hidden by the shelves. And then I stood up, towering over the shelves, and repeated myself.
One of them quietly answered, "Thirteen."
I jerked my thumb at the store's entrance. "Out." (Door's to MY left...)
Hijacking the thread a bit here...

Yaoi is a terrifying, terrifying force.

I speak from experience. If anyone has gone to Anime North for the past few years (Or, in my case, a Decade or so) you'll know what I mean. To give you perspective, all regular and Yuri (lesbian) hentai is shown at night, after hours, in a small cramped hotel room, generally for 1 night. It's poorly attended, and most guys give it a pass just because we didn't come to an anime convention to watch porn. We can do that at home AFTER the con :P

Now, the Yaoi stuff... they have their own subsection, called Yaoi North. There is an area cordoned off in the hotel exclusively for their use. Videos ranging from PG-13 to Hardcore play night and day. There are discussion panels, fanfiction contests, events, etc etc. Males who stray into this place are either ejected immediately, or required to perform an immediate act of yaoi. This I know from reading the CONVENTION PROGRAM. A friend who is far braver than I snuck in once (With his girlfriend) and confirmed it before he was ejected.

This sort of thing terrifies me on a deeply homophobic level, and I have learned that when a female of any age utters the word 'Yaoi', to immediately turn around and proceed with all due haste in the other direction.

These women will eventually conquer the planet, and institute mandatory yaoi into law. Mark my words!

Can't be much worse than the "tentacle rape".

And had to laugh at Polenicus' description. XD Just as I laugh at any teenage girl who thinks it's just men kissing. XXXD

So they have to, like....... (mind races for a PG-13 yaoi scenario) make out with some other dudes to be allowed in?

Man, i'm pretty much counting the days when some parent is gonan come in and accuse me of selling her kids "porn." It's kinda scary to see TOKYOPOO release stuff that has mild nudity and Del rey releasing stuff daling with underage girls and a possible Shotacon theme.

It was done purely for shock value, and honestly was clumsy the way it was told.

Sorry, still not reading it again.

Yes. In fact, they have a private room and scheduled event listed in the program for it.

I am NOT making this up! I can scan the page and e-mail it to you if you doubt!
