Kitten, I completely understand, which is why I will usually let people go around me, if at all possible. On the highway, I'll get stay in the left lane but move over to let the crazies around me, if need be.

As a general rule, I am an overly considerate driver. I just ticked off when people tailgate me when there is nothing I can do, short of pulling off the road to let them by, which generally isn't much of an option. I try not to be too much of a jerk, but if you get up my butt for no apparent reason when there is nothing I can do, I will go the speed limit, nothing more, nothing less.

oh, i know most here are pretty courteous (at least I would hope so), but there are those who decide to give themselves an official police badge and be the traffic cop.

If there's nothing you can do about moving, then don't worry about it. Let the other person have their little tizzy.

Today I was behind someone going 5-10 miles below the limit. I was a tad annoyed (but tired and on my way home so whatever) but the guy behind me took the first clear passing zone he could and passed both of us...I don't like passing on 2 lane roads, even if it's clear, unless the person is going ridiculously slow, but no way am I going to pass 2 cars at once... I once passed a guy who had been going 20-25 for several miles, through 50, 45 and 35 zones, then went 15 in the 25 after we turned at the light. I didn't get a chance to pass until then, and when I did I looked over and it was 2 high school or maybe college age kids, and the driver looked at me with his mouth wide open and his tongue hanging out; little bastard was doing it on purpose! If my phone had been easily accessible I would have considered calling the cops and reporting it...

Kitten, I agree...if I'm on a multi-lane road I stay to the right (well, in NJ at least it's the law that the left lane is only for passing, anyway) and if I pass someone I get back over as soon as I can. I hate when I'm stuck in the left lane, going the speed limit or more, and someone rides my bumper. Trust me, buddy, I'll get back as soon as I can, but I'm not going to go 90 just to make you happy. Otherwise, if you want to pass me, by all means, go ahead. And don't tailgate me in the right lane just to be an ass when no one is in the left.

I live in the slow lane. That way all the SUVs and luxury cars can zoom past me and make their own lives miserable, instead of stressing me out. If someone tailgates me in the slowlane, tough for them. I'm in the SLOW LANE. You can damn well pass me!

What bugs me is when people will honk over and over at me because I don't want to run over a bike or a pedestrian on a turn, or cut off another car. Honking without it being an emergency is extremely immature IMO. I take a country road to work now because I'm so sick of dealing with this kind of crap. The last guy actually went as far as to try to hit me because he was oh so mad that I didn't hit that guy on the bike.

I was driving from west Texas out to my parents out in east Texas which is about an 8 hour trip. I had just gotten on to I-20 when this little black BMW from California whips past me going somewhere around 20-30 mph faster than the 70 mph speed limit. He quickly got so far ahead of me that I lost sight of him.

10 minutes later I pass him as he's sitting on the side of the road getting a talking to by a state trooper. I kinda chuckle to myself and continue on driving. A few minutes later he passes me again, I just shake my head and keep going.

About 10 minutes later he's pulled over again with a state trooper at his window.
A few minutes later he passes me again.

This kept happening all the way till I finally got off I-20, eight hours later.

"On the other hand, I get pissy when people tailgate me. I'm the type that I do speed, but I do not tailgate. If you're going way under the limit, I'll get close enough to let you know I'm not please, but then I back off. If someone wants to go slow, they're going to go slow regardless. "

Well, if you are getting close enough to let them know you aren't pleased, you are probably tailgating. They're probably doing to you what you do...which is slow down if people are tailgating.

People do that to me, too, but it doesn't work because I don't really care if the tailgater behind me in pleased or not. I slow down. I figure if I have to drive around an unsafe person, I'd rather have a low speed crash than a high speed crash.

Not only that, but if they DO stop suddenly, the tailgater is at fault. Regardless.

If there's one thing I can't stand while driving...it's idiots following me too closely. I've been rear-ended twice.

I have my own method for dealing with the high-beam morons. I simply use my power mirrors...to point the light right back at them. Usually, they back off. If not, well, I just start slowing down. I don't get upset, I just waste more of their "important" time. It works quite well on 2-lane roads

In fact, I got to see some idiot on a sport bike get nailed on a 4-lane the night I ordered the Corolla. Dad and I were driving home, and the bike went zipping past us. Apparently, he didn't know that our borough was *notorious* for speed traps--as soon as he hit the borough line, one of our finest pulled him over. That made our night

If you're wondering, I don't see the need for doing triple digits. Most times, I've had people blast past me on the highway...only for me to catch up later because of construction or traffic lights. Time they saved? Usually, not very much.

OK, lady, lay off it. You've been doing this for at least twenty seconds. There are three freaking lanes to my right that are wide open. By the time the road hits four lanes, you sort of lose the "passing lane on the left" thing. Go around me.
Did you know that passing on the right is against the law? If a faster car wants to get by, it's your responsibility to move back to one of the slower lanes to let them go by. Doesn't matter how many lanes the highway has, that rule ALWAYS applies.

I can't imagine that one being easily enforced.

I know it's not that way in my state, or at least it wasn't when I was working on getting my drivers license 20+ years ago. I remember one section in the manual that said that you can pass on the left if:

                        1. There are lanes to the right.

                        or

                        2. You are passing a car that is making a left turn.

Trust me, I'm not talking about tailgating. I'm talking about closing the distance to about a car length or a little less, as kind of a "hey, not sure if you've noticed" as lately, I seem to get stuck behind people unaware of the speed limit or who are too busy on their cell to notice that they're going WAY too slow. I never stay close, and I never get so close that they can't see my headlights or that I couldn't stop in time. I also never pull crap like that if the weather is bad.

My biggest pet peeve is when someone in a huge SUV/Truck, who can easily see over my little car, tailgates me, even though I've got traffic in front of me that I obviously cannot go faster than.

Also, about a week ago, on my way over to my parents' house, I had a real winner. I pulled onto a 45mph road, 2 lane, behind a white car. The car, from the get go, was accelerating VERY slowly, only up to about 30mph, then started swerving between the lane we were in and the one for the (thankfully nonexistant at the time) oncoming traffic. He kept this up until I finally honked at him, at which point he sped up a little, but kept swerving. After a mile or so of this, I was able to get around him. When I did, I was not entirely shocked to see that even though he had two passengers, he was the one futzing with a cell phone. What did shock me was that he had the audacity to shoot me a dirty stare and gesture, when I was the person stuck between traffic up my butt and him, who was driving as if he were drunk.

Not in this state. Especially not when lanes come in and out from the left as well as the right.
