  • Seen at the mall...

I saw this sign at the mall today...I'd never noticed it before.

It's a big cardboard standee thing with a picture of a giant cell phone, and on the screen there's a "text message" that says

    U YELL
    U CUSS
    U GROUP OF 5+
    U OUT

Must be in multiple malls, actually. I've seen it at Independence Center recently.

It's in my local Simon mall. I was so excited that I actually started shopping there again. But, they don't enforce it. There are throngs of screaming, yelling, pushing, cursing teenagers everywhere and mall security is nowhere to be found.
If you are thinking to yourself, "Hmmm, should I post this?" it should probably go HERE.

One local mall started a parent escort policy a couple years ago for Friday and Saturday nights. It's amazing the difference between there and the mall without an escort policy.

The Carousel Center! I remember that; dated a guy who was in grad school up there in the early 90's - which I think was shortly after it opened? The one thing that stands out in my mind is seeing Silence of the Lambs, on the day of release, which was Valentine's Day, wth maybe 10 people in the theater mid-afternoon, coming out just as it was getting dark, and being scared to death!

I agree with policeis like this; keeps the number of "incidents" and other stuff way down!

It is a Simon Mall (actually, it's your Simon Mall, come to think of it). I don't know if they enforce it or not, because I didn't notice any roving bands of teens, but there was a lot of security around. I had bought a dress at New York & Co. and they left the security tag on. The day I bought it there was a security guard near the front of the store the whole time, and when I brought it back to get the tag removed, he was there again. I noticed guards inside a few other stores and just around the mall in general, as well.

Oddly enough, the alarm didn't go off when I left with it, but when I brought it back it went off when I walked in... I only bought one other thing at the same time, too, so it's not like I had a bag full of stuff that blocked the signal.

I don't like the group of 5+ discrimination, but I understand that most teens (yep, that's who they're targeting, can you tell? ) do show up in large groups. It's probably easier on the shop owners and security anyway.
Well, here's the other thing with the large group. They tend to stand in front of doorways and block them. (at least they do in my mall.) And of course, the more of them in one group, the louder they are because they're all trying to talk over one another. It's not like they can't split up the group and hang out that way...

I think that's a little unfair by making ALL teenagers follow that rule.
It was unfair that your niece was singled out like that, especially since she was quiet and sitting out of the way. It's a shame that the obnoxious jerks spoil it for everyone.

They need to do something. Around here, normally once a month or so, there is a fight or a stabbing that happens at the local mail. I think in every case, the people involved were all teens, and mostly gang bangers at that. It's sad. Around here we are down to just 1 mail, from 4 when I was growing up. The customers from the other 3 were pretty much ran out by gangs, and they are doing the same thing over at this mail. I know allot of people that have stopped shopping at that one because of it. There was a proposal from banning Teens after a 6pm or having a parent escort, but that didn't go to far. I guess once the gangs run people out of this mail, they will have to turn to Target, or Wal-mart to hang out
