  • I love the way she handled this one.

Recently my partner and I have taken up op shopping (you know, browing charity shops that sell donated goods).

Yesterday we were at the Salvation Army store (where I got a Givenchy shirt for $6, it appears to have been worn only once or twice) and I witnessed this:

    SC = older man
CSR = volunteer woman who appeared to be at least 80 years old

    SC: "How much is this?"
    CSR: "Eight dollars."
SC: "How much for me though?"
    CSR: "Eight dollars."
    (repeat a few times, until
SC: "No, I want a special price for me."
CSR: "Oh, a special price for you? Why didn't you say so? Eight dollars."
SC: "Come on, do me a deal."
CSR: "OK, nine dollars, and I'll throw in a free plastic bag."

He paid the eight dollars and declined the bag.

    Can I keep her?
How was I supposed to know someone was slipping you Birth Control in the food I've been making for you lately?

I wonder who this guy was. He must have been a celebrity or a member of the royal family to expect such special treatment.

        Serves him right!!!

I wish I could've said things like that when I worked at Goodwill.

Mmm - surely those people have enough money that they don't need to bum a better price?

I'm pretty sure the British royals wouldn't shop at goodwill, and even if they did they'd pay the asking price so the press wouldn't call them cheaper than they already will.

What is wrong with people? The Salvation Army isn't a damn yard sale - it's selling used goods for CHARITY. People have no shame. That lady was awesome in her response, though.

The Queen would so totally shop at Goodwill!

Back on topic, I think the SC's mistake was being sucky to a volunteer. Not likely to lose her job for pissing off a customer now, is she?

My coworker will do that all the time. She gets people calling in to whine at her to "give them a better price" so she ups the price by about 10%. When they whine about it not being better she tells them, "well it's better for me."

They usually either stop whining and give her a PO, or the claim they can get it elsewhere for less... then send her a PO later, like she won't remember who they were and what they said.
