  • Yet another story of an SC not planning ahead.

    Kind of a long story...

I've been cleaning out my room recently, yay! And I came upon a book for a savings account I had forgotten about. I hadn't been to this bank in aaaages, as my mother and I switched to a bank that treats us better financially. Anyway, I go to the bank to make sure the account still exists and to get any and all existing monies from it (Yay monies!).

So I get there. Three tellers are there, the one on the far left busy with a customer, the one in the middle doing other work, and the third on the right with another customer. So I wait in line, patiently, getting everything ready for my exchange. The customer leaves, I wait for a welcome nod and approach and begin to explain my situation to my polite teller. At some point, a man approached the middle teller and she assists him. My teller ran off to check something about the account, and I hear a woman RUN in from outside. She zooms to the front of the line and waits, looking at every customer and every teller in turn, tapping her foot, and making it VERY clear that whatever she needs done needs to be done AN HOUR AGO OH MY GOODNESS THIS LINE IS TAKING FOREVER. She has, as you have seen, JUST reached the bank.

My teller comes back and we resume the transaction. The time is 1:23 PM (This is important!) The man to my left leaves. The woman RUNS forward and explains that she needs money taken out of two accounts and wired to someone. Her teller begins to look over everything for the transaction and basically do her job and the woman is practically flipping out. "JUST TAKE THE MONEY OUT OF THE ACCOUNTS!" I thought she was gonna have a heart attack. Her teller comes over to ask mine a question, (which is obviously not an issue for me,) and the woman is now screaming so the whole bank can hear. "JUST TAKE THE MONEY OUT OF THE ACCOUNTS! IT HAS TO BE THERE BY 1:30!!!!" The woman is losing any form of composure she once might've had. My teller explains to her teller what to do, (there is, of course, more than JUST TAKING THE MONEY OUT OF THE ACCOUNTS OMG!, and it seemed a bit involved,) and she returns to help this lady out.

My teller whispers to me, "I'm sorry about that." I return with a quiet, "It isn't -your- fault some people don't plan ahead." She laughed. I said, a bit more loudly, though I don't know or care if the other woman heard me, that it was immature to act that way and inflict that behavior on others because SHE hadn't planned the important things on her day. (Reference: the impatient woman looked to be in her 50s and I'm 19.)

I left before 1:26, and the woman was still there, impatiently rushing her poor teller. God, I just wanted to spit acid onto her face. What is wrong with people?! It makes me SO mad!

I will never understand this behavior, but I must restate a classic: "Lack of planning on your part DOES NOT consititute an emergency on my part."

I should also note, I am ALWAYS running late, and I never take it out on anyone else, as it is always my own fault.

I plan my days ahead. If I AM running late, then I'll take responsibility. I don't inflict my problems onto others through my behavior if I can help it at all, and usually if I'm upset about something else I'll apologize. This woman was just RUDE.

Um, speaking as a banker, a wire cannot make it somewhere in 7 minutes. It has to clear the Federal Reserve first. Generally it takes 24-48 hours. Could be sooner, but rarely. And NEVER 7 minutes.

I believe you are thinking of an ACH transfer and not a wire. While I don't work in a bank, I do work closely with banks, and when I wire money, I will get a call from the other side of the globe within 2 hours that it has posted to their bank account, however if I transfer through ACH it takes 24-48 hours to post to the recipient.

For a personal banking customer, a true wire may not be an option as I have never attempted one on behalf of myself, just my corporation. So the term may be used interchangably for personal banking.
The only words you said that I understood were "His", "Phone" and "Ya'll". The other 2 paragraphs worth was about as intelligible as a drunken Teletubby barkin' come on's at a Hooter's waitress.

I'm still trying to figure out what was going to happen at 1:30 if the wire transfer didn't go through.

Unless someone was going to die, there's no excuse for acting like that.

If you have to ask, it's probably better posted at www.fratching.com

They were going to start mailing her fingers if the transfer wasn't done on time. Damnit I watch to many spy type movies.

Our bank can usually complete a wire transfer within an hour or two. We had a younger customer one time who wanted to buy new rims for his car but couldn't since he didn't have a high enough limit on his debit card. He called up our customer service rep and had her wire the money into one of his friends' accounts at another bank so he could buy the rims. He called at around 4:00 in the afternoon and he had his money before 5:00.

To be fair (why am I being fair? I must be sick!), it could've been for 1:30 in another time zone.

When someone is barking at me to hurry up generally I'll go slower. Its mean but I will not be rushed when counting out money. I don't want my drawer to even be off by a penny.
